Price:  $28.89
Product Description
Drum for Brother HL-2220 Laser Printer

This Drum is good for printing 12000 pages, on average. Average page coverage is 5% of toner per page (compared to white space on the paper), which is the standard Brother specification for this drum, and a standard measuring term for the consumer printing industry.

This product comes with a 6 month Warranty against any defects (including free replacement). We stand behind our products 100%, as these are not manufactured by Brother.

What's the difference between a drum and a toner cartridge? A toner cartridge is just that: a cartridge that contains toner. The drum does all the work.

Product Manuals
Drum Unit Replacement in the Brother HL-2220 Laser Printer

Before replacing the drum unit, please review the notes and cautions that are expressed in the "Replacement of Consumable Items" section. The notes and cautionary measures still apply.

Open the front-cover and remove the toner and drum components. Compress the green lock lever and remove the toner cartridge from the drum component.

Unpack the drum unit, and attach the toner cartridge to the drum unit (You can feel or hear it click). The green lever will raise when the toner is appropriately installed.

Now put the assembly back into the printer but do not close the front-cover yet.

Push and hold the "Go" button for roughly 4 seconds (all the LED lights will light up). When all the LED lights light up, release the "Go" button.

Drum Unit Cleaning in the Brother HL-2220 Laser Printer

If output has black or white spots at 3.71" intervals, it is time to clean the drum unit. Follow the guidelines below to rectify the problem.

Prepare a Letter or A4 paper. Ensure the device is in the "Ready" mode. Release the back and front-cover.

Note: Ensure the two green envelope levers in the front-end are in the "UP" position.

Push "Go" five times. Shut the front-cover. The device will begin its drum cleaning process. The "Ready" LED light will light up when the device is set for the cleaning process.

Note: The device will make various mechanical noises that may seem startling. This is because the OPC is being rotated in reverse (it is not a malfunction).

Note: Do not close the front or back-cover while the device is in the middle of the process (the process will stop).

When the device is finished cleaning the drum, it will default back to the "Ready" mode.

The cleaning process should be implemented a few times to ensure optimal cleaning for the device's drum unit.

Manually Cleaning the Drum in the Brother HL-2220 Laser Printer (Alternantive Method)

If drum cleaning does not fix the persistent spots on printouts, turn off the device's power switch. Disconnect the cables (including the power cord). Let the device cool down for ten minutes.

Release the front-cover and remove the toner/drum assembly. Set the toner/drum assembly on a flat surface (flat surface should be lined with a disposable paper or cloth).

Press on the green lock lever and remove the toner cartridge unit from the drum.

Take the print sample with the spots and put it in front of the drum unit to locate the position of the impure prints. On the left or right-side of the drum, turn the drum unit that resembles a roller.

When the impurity is found on the drum that matches the location on the paper, wipe clean with a dry cotton swab until the impurity is removed.

Note: Do not use any sharp objects to clean the surface of the drum.

Plug the toner cartridge back into the drum unit (You can feel or hear it click). When the toner cartridge is plugged in the drum unit correctly, the green lever will lift by itself.

Reopen the front-cover and put the toner/drum assembly back into the device. Reinstall the paper tray and close the front-cover. Reattach all the cables that were unattached prior to manually cleaning the drum and turn on the device.

Brother HL 2220 Review

Overview:

Brother presents the Brother HL 2220 printer for home offices and small offices. It is a compact design that is space-saving, flexible, and reliable. It facilitates a stylish, gray design that features a monochrome laser. The printer stands 12.6" tall, 17.7" deep, and 18.5" wide. It weighs a mere 14.8 pounds.

Pros:

The compact Brother HL 2220 printer is effective for producing light-medium volumes. With the first print of the day taking only 10 seconds, the prints and copies are swift at 21 pages per minute (approximating to 2.8 seconds per print). For such a small device, it is inspiring that this printer can produce up to 8,000 pages per month, but Brother recommends a monthly duty cycle of between 250-1,600 pages. It produces decent quality output at 2400 x 600 dots per inch. For users that only need basic necessities of business letters, spreadsheets, reports, and other mono-based documents, this printer is a solid add-on to any small business environment.

The standard capacity tray holds up to 250 sheets of paper, which is surprising because of the printer's size. Users can throw in a whole ream of paper as needed. The printer runs on a 200 Mega Hertz process with 8 Mega Bytes of memory. The media types acceptable for the printer are Labels, Envelopes, Bond, and Plan. Various sizes of paper can be used with the printer's paper tray; B5, B6, A4, A5, A6, Executive, Legal, and Letter. For the manual feed, users can use B5, B6, A4, A5, A6, Executive, Legal, Letter, and custom-sized envelopes (3.0-85" wide and 4.57-14" long). The output tray can hold up to 100 sheets.

The printer comes with starter toner cartridges that can produce up to 700 pages and a DR420 drum unit that is good for 12,000 pages. For businesses that look to save money on the long run, the Toner Save mode can be utilized for the nonessential business documents. The Toner Save mode will reduce toner consumption, thus, decreasing the frequency of toner cartridge purchases.

This printer has been Energy Star qualified, which means that it meets the strict energy-efficiency guidelines mandated by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). Energy Star labels ensure that the device can help save more money than the devices that are not Energy Star qualified. This printer has received an average of 4-5 star ratings from consumers that have purchased the printer.

Cons:

The device does not facilitate any optional upgrades for paper management and memory. Users can't print in color. This printer is an ideal companion for pure-mono print environments, but other than that, this printer does not scan, copy, or fax. It would be nice to see Brother incorporate some other features like media card slots or an LCD. The printer does not have any resident fonts. Unfortunately, duplex printing is not available for this model. If you need something with more capabilities and network-ability, the HL 2270 or the HL 2280 are the better choices. The Brother HL 2220 does not have any useful networking features and is only interfaced with a simple Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port.
