Brother HL-2230D Toner Cartridge (Extra Capacity - 2600 Pages)
  OVER 100

Price:  $13.89
Product Description
Toner Cartridge for Brother HL-2230D Laser Printer.

This Toner Cartridge has an extended capacity (high yield) and prints 2600 pages with an average 5% page coverage. The amount of pages can vary depending upon the amount of ink printed onto each page. (5% is a standard Brother spec)

This product comes with a 6 month Warranty against any defects (including free replacement). We stand behind our products 100%, as these are not manufactured by Brother.

Why toner? Why not call it ink? Regular ink dries quickly, which is why cartridges for inkjet printers do not last long. Laser Printers use toner, which is ink in the form of powder. A sealed toner cartridge can be stored for 2+ years prior to usage.

Product Manuals
Replacing the Toner Cartridge on the Brother HL-2230 Laser Printer

The Brother HL 2230 has two consumable items; the toner cartridge and the drum unit.

Note: Brother recommends that when it is time to replace the drum or toner, to prepare a flat surface with a disposable cloth laid out on the flat surface.

Note: To prevent static electrify damage, either wear an anti-static electricity band, or avoid touching the electrodes inside the printer.

If the printer indicates the printer is low, take out the toner and shake the toner from left-to-right and right-to-left to distribute the remaining toner.

When it is time to replace the toner cartridge, leave the printer on and do not use for at least 10 minutes (to cool down).

Open the front cover that is above the paper tray and pull out the drum/toner assembly. The green-lock lever needs to be pushed in order to remove the toner from its drum assembly.

Immediately unpack the toner cartridge and hold the toner with both hands on its sides and shake (shaking the cartridge left and right will distribute the toner evenly). Pull off the protective covering from the toner cartridge.

If the toner cartridge is properly installed into the drum assembly, it will make a locking noise and the green lever will raise automatically.

Note: The corona wire should be cleaned in every instance of changing out the toner or drum unit.

To clean the corona wire, locate the green tab (it will have a triangle-arrow on it) that is on the drum unit. Gently slide the green tab left-right numerous times.

The green tab should be returned to its home position after cleaning the corona wire (There will be an adjacent triangle-arrow on the unit that points to the green tab).

Note: Even after installing the toner to the drum assembly and putting the drum assembly back into the printer. Do not turn off the power or open the front cover until after the Ready lights are lit.

Understanding the LED Statuses on the Brother HL-2230 Laser Printer

When the device is in Sleep or Deep Sleep mode, the Ready light is dimmed.

When the device is printing or ready, the Ready light is lit.

When the device is warming up, cooling down, receiving data, or there is print data in the memory, the Ready light will flash (press the Go button to print the remaining data in the printer if the Ready light has been flashing for an extended amount of time).

When the toner is low, the Toner light will flash, and the Ready light will be lit (toner light will stay on for two seconds and turn off for three seconds).

When it is time to replace the toner, the Toner light will stay lit (it is time to replace the toner). It also turns on when the drum or toner assembly is installed inappropriately (take the drum out and reinstall).

The device will continue to print until the Toner and Ready lights stay on (replace toner). When the Toner and Ready lights are on, this indicates that it is time to replace the toner.

The drum unit is almost depleted, the Drum light will flash on and off for two or three seconds, and the Ready light will stay lit. When it is time to replace the drum, the Drum light and the Ready light will turn on and stay lit. Also, if the Drum and the Error light are turned on and they stay on, it is time to replace the drum.

If the corona wire in the drum is dirty, the Drum and Error lights will flash at the same time.

Cleaning the Paper Tray in the Brother HL-2230 Laser Printer

It is essential to clean and maintain the Brother HL 2230 printer to ensure that it will work at its peak performance for a long time. While cleaning the Brother HL 2230, ensure that a dry, lint-free cloth is used.

Note: To streamline maintenance, clean the printer every time that the drum unit or toner cartridge is replaced.

Note: Don't use substances that are liquid, flammable, or contains alcohol or ammonia to clean the printer.

First, turn off the printer and disconnect all the cables (power cable as well).

Remove the paper-tray completely. Use the lint-free cloth to wipe-down the interior. Ensure that any paper and other foreign items is removed from the paper-tray. Wipe-down the paper-tray.

After cleaning the paper-tray, put the paper and the paper-tray back into its original position.

Brother HL 2230 Review

Brother presents the Brother HL 2230 printer which is compact and primarily for personal use. This printer is designed with the home user in mind. If a home user intends on dealing with a lot of reports, spreadsheets, and professional-looking documents, then this is the ideal solution. It facilitates a simple, stylish, and space-efficient design that allows it to fit anywhere. The printer stands 12.6" tall, 17.7" deep, and 18.5" wide. It weighs a minuscule 14.8 pounds. This printer is affordable to purchase and operate.

With only a wait of 8.5 seconds for the first page, the Brother HL 2230 uses an electrophotographic laser to print 24 pages per minute. In lieu of a print resolution of 2400 x 600 dots per inch, it produces professional output with superior text and excellent mono-graphics. It runs on a 200 Mega Hertz ARM9 processor and 8 Mega Bytes of memory.

The printer utilizes GDI emulation, which stands for Graphical Device Interface. GDI is utilized by most Windows-based applications to display images on computer monitors. When a user prints documents, the processing is implemented through a user's computer, instead of the printer; also, called host-based printing. Windows, Mac, and Linux-based systems should have no problem with compatibility.

The printer's standard interface is a High-Speed USB 2.0 port. The printer's output capacity is a 250-sheet tray and a single-sheet bypass slot. The output tray holds up to 100-sheets face-down, which is good if a user does not want to spend a whole lot of time reorganizing the papers in chronological order (if each print is different). It can print up to 10,000 pages per month, if needed, but the recommended volume is between 250-2,000 sheets per month. When comparing this printer to the HL 2220, this printer has a larger threshold of maximum output by 2,000 pages. The Brother HL 2230s recommended output exceeds the Brother HL 2220s recommended output by 400. If a user needs something stronger and faster than what the Brother HL 2220 can provide, this printer is the better choice.

The high-yield toner cartridges can produce up to 2,600 pages per unit and the drum units can produce up to 12,000 pages. The standard toner cartridges produce a moderate 1,200 pages per unit. If a user is generating an average output of 2,000 pages per 30 days, that is roughly 66 pages per day. A user could safely generate 86 pages per day without any serious overload on the printer. The standard paper sizes are Envelopes, A4, Executives, Legal, and Letter. Custom size envelopes can be utilize via the manual feed slot that accepts sizes ranging from 3" to 8.5" in width and 4.6" to 14" in length.

While the Brother HL 2230 is a robust mono-based printer, it lacks the capability for color prints. There are a lot of MFPs that cost as much as this printer, but they have capabilities to scan, copy, fax, and print in color. While the MFPs do have a plethora of functions and cost just as much as the HL 2230, they are not likely to print mono-based documents as fast as the Brother HL 2230. There are no LCD and resident fonts. The printer lacks any type networking interface.
