High Yield Toner Cartridge: Printer manufacturers offer High Yield Toner Cartridges as an upgrade over standard cartridges. High Yield cartridges contain more ink/toner than regular cartridges. This cartridge prints 6,500 pages with an average of 5% coverage, while a standard cartridge only prints 3,000.

Why toner? Why not call it ink? Inkjet printers use liquid ink, while laser printers use toner, which is ink in powder form. A sealed toner cartridge can be stored for over two years prior to use, as opposed to inkjet cartridges which have a shorter shelf-life.
