Brother MFC-8840D Review
Printers are probably the most popular pieces of equipment in any office, no matter how small or big it is. Most offices will also need the additional usage of copiers and scanning machine as well. Instead of buying all of this equipment separate, you could invest in an all in one machine such as the Brother MFC-8840D. This comes with all of the features mentioned above, plus the added ability to fax. Read on to find our more about the functions and features this multifunctional machine offers.
One of the main advantages of this machine is the duplex printing mode it has. Duplex printing is a way of printing on both sides of paper automatically. This means the user will not have to manually turn the paper around in order for you to get a double sided print. Most businesses will find this feature almost essential. It saves them time, as you don't have to do it yourself, plus it will save the business money as you are using up less paper. Not every machine comes with duplex printing as standard, and you should check before you purchase if it does. Some machines will offer it as an upgrade in which you have to pay extra for it, whereas with the MFC-8840D, it comes already built in.
The print speed is another main selling point of any printing device, and obviously the faster the better. This specific machine is capable of 21 prints per minute. This is a fairly good printing speed. Working in a small office environment, which is what this is intended for, should suit everyone’s needs. It prints out in black and white by using laser technology. The speed doesn't affect the resolution though, and it is still capable of reaching a very good 2400 by 600 dpi. Add this to the maximum monthly duty cycle of 20,000, and you have yourself a fairly powerful printer (although you will struggle to print anywhere near 20,000 prints a month).
Also with this machine, comes a built in fax machine. It can achieve black and white faxing only through it 33.6K bps Super G3 fax modem. It has a total auto dial of 340 locations, as well as a broadcasting range of up to 390 locations. Its best transmission speed is 2 seconds per page, which equals 30 pages per minute. This is what you would expect from a fax machine of this caliber. It has many other features such as fax forwarding, dual access and automatic redialing making it a very powerful faxing machine that will be perfect for a small offices needs.
As expected in any all in one machine, it has a quite powerful copying function built in. It is a flatbed style copier, and can copy up to 21 copies per minute. It does only copy in black and white though. It has a useful reduction or enlargement feature that allows you to zoom in or out, anywhere from 25% to 400%. The poster function allows you to take a normal sized document, and make it larger to that it prints over 2 or 4 pages. This is a useful feature, especially if you are conducting a team meeting and need a large diagram for example.
Other functions include the ability to scan in black and white or even color. This can be achieved at a 9600 dpi resolution. It also comes with a 250 sheet paper drawer as well as a 50 sheet multi purpose tray.
To be honest, this machine doesn't come with many disadvantages. The lack of color printing and copying may be a problem for some. But this is only a downfall if you have to have color. Also, the print speed might not be fast enough if you are working in an office larger than a small workgroup. But if you buy this for a small office in mind, in should be perfect.
For someone on a budget, an all in one machine is what the office needs. The Brother MFC-8840D in particular offers printing, copying, scanning and faxing. This comes with the reliability of using a Brother product, as well as the cheap running costs. This becomes even cheaper when you take into account the duplex printing feature.
