How to Replace the Drum Unit in a Brother MFC-9125CN Color Laser Printer

If the message DRUMS END SOON, with a plural, “drums,” appears on the Brother MFC-9125CN’s screen, this means that all four drums are approaching the end of their life. If a single drum unit in particular is coming to the end of its usefulness, the message DRUM ENDS SOON will appear.

Similarly the REPLACE DRUMS message means that all four of the drums need to be replaced before operation can continue, but if REPLACE DRUM appears, only one of them needs replacement.

A DRUM ERROR may appear with the replace drum message, or it may appear with the message SLIDE THE GREEN TAB ON DRUM. When the latter appears, the corona wires on the drums need to be cleaned by sliding the tabs found on the drum/toner combo units.

A combination of some of these messages may appear at once as scrolling messages.

Remove and separate the drum and toner units as you would when replacing toner cartridges. Remove the protective cover from the drum unit, adjoin it with the toner cartridge, and reinstall.

The drum counter must then be reset with the following button procedure:

1) Press MENU, 8, 4.
2) Use the arrow keys to select the color drum to be reset. Press OK.
3) Press 1, STOP/EXIT
