Lexmark C920 Review
The Lexmark C920 Printer is a high-quality color laser printer, network ready, easy to manage and with a good working speed, offering flexibility and handling a bunch of media types and sizes. The device features state-of-the-art data security and is user friendly, but unfortunately is not produced anymore by Lexmark, so if you want this model you will need to find a reseller.
The Lexmark C920 Printer is working at a resolution of 2400 and prints as fast as up to 36 pages per minute for both monochrome and colored prints. The speeds when printing Letter size color prints is up to 34 pages per minute. if the printer hasn't been warmed up previously the first black and white page will come out in 9.5 seconds, while the first color page will come out as fast as 13.5 seconds.
This device is powered up by an impressive 1000 MHz processor and the standard memory is 256 MB. I've never heard before of such an impressive processor for a printer, so the device gets five stars here. The RAM can be extended to 1000 MB through the available DIMM slots.
The monthly duty cycle is set at 200,000 pages, so you will never have to be afraid you are overusing the device. The producer advises the buyers not to print more than 200,000 pages per month, as this will considerably decrease the printer's life cycle. On the other side there's the recommended monthly duty cycle, with Lexmark advising the users to print more than 2500 each month so the device will work at optimal parameters all the time.
The noise level is set at 45dB when the printer is idle and at 55 dB when the printer is operating.
The input capacity is assured by three trays of a total capacity of 750 sheets. There are two 100-sheet multipurpose tray and one 550-sheet input tray. The output is set at 500 sheets thanks to a 500-sheet output bin. However, for additional payment the user can get another 550-sheet drawer, so the input capacity can go up to 1300 sheets. Lexmark also offers two other 550-sheet drawer with printer stand, one 1.100-sheet staple punch finisher, one 3.000-sheet high-capacity feeder and one banner media tray.
The device supports the following media sizes: 10 Envelope, 7 3/4 Envelope, 9 Envelope, A3, A4, A5, B4 Envelope, C4 and C5 Envelope, DL Envelope, JIS-B4 and B5, Ledger, Legal, Letter, Banner (11.69 by 36 inches) and Super Tabloid (12 by 18 inches). The media types supported are the following: card stocks, envelopes, glossy paper, paper labels, plain paper, transparencies, banner paper.
The printer features a standard built-in duplexer, allowing automatic two sided printing. This feature mainly targets the companies aiming to cut down on time, cartridges and paper.
The Lexmark C920 LED Printer offers support for lots of operating systems: Mac OS 8.6+, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows 2000+, Novell NetWare3.2+, Red Flag Linux 4.0+, Linpus Linux 9.2+, Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS 3.0+, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8.0+, SUSE Linux Professional 9.1+, Sun-Solaris 8+, HP-UX 11+ and IBM AIX 5.1+. It is considered as being one of the printers with the largest support for operating systems.
The printer comes with the following standard ports: Centronics IEEE 1284 Bidirectional Parallel, One Internal Card Slot, USB 2.0 and USB Interface on Operator Panel. The Internal RS-232C serial and the Internal 1284-B Bidirectional Parallel are optional, so you can get them for additional money, as well as several types of optional network ports.
The printer measures 20.2 x 27.4 x 28 inches and weighs 177.1 lb. Those measurements are clearly indicating the device can also be used at home, but I think it is a little bit pricey and expensive to maintain for home use.
Besides the fact that this printer is not produced anymore, it does not really have too many cons, so I'd rather not say anything here instead of saying something just for the sake of it. This is just a flawless device, that's all. I rarely note devices with five stars, but this one really deserves it.
