Overview:

The Copystar CS-1810 is a desktop copier/printer that can handle copy and print jobs for a lower cost, without compromising on quality. The compact design takes up less space than its floor model counterparts, which is perfect for any small business or home office. With the latest in technology and features, you can increase your office productivity and streamline your operations. 

Pros:

This 59 ½ pound copier has dimensions of 20” x 20” x 18” (width, depth, height.) It may be a bit too large to fit on a desk, but will fit comfortably on a shelf or table.

The Copystar CS-1810 uses a stationary platen design at 8 ½” x 14” for scanning; the stationary design allows the copier to keep to its physical size, without enlarging its footprint. The automatic document feeder allows for a maximum of 30 single sided (legal size of 8 ½” x 14”) originals. More can be fed as the copy job progresses. With 16MB of RAM, and SOPM (scan once print many) technology, the unit can produce copies at a rate of 18 pages per minute, up to 99 copies.

The Copystar CS-1810 has a photo quality resolution of 600 x 600 dpi (256 grayscale levels.) The fast print resolution is set to 600 x 1200 dpi, making every printout of exceptional quality. The magnification can be changed from 50% to 200% in 1% increments, or preset jumps. There are two enlargement preset ratios.

The control panel for the Copystar CS-1810 is fairly straightforward and user-friendly. You won’t need to pull out the manual every time you want to print, copy or change the toner. Users can select the quantity, magnification and exposure, as well as switch to ‘toner save’ mode. Indicators will tell you when it’s time to change the toner, drum and replace other parts in the unit. There is also an indicator light for paper misfeeds and paper jams.
The sliding paper try can hold up to 250 sheets of paper, either letter size (8 ½” by 11”) or legal size (8 ½” x 14”) Non-standard paper can also fit into the tray, so printing things such as envelopes are not a problem. The lowest size is 5.5” x 8.5”

The Copystar CS-1810 allows for printer connectivity and is compatible with various Windows, Unix, MAC, and Novell operating systems. It comes standard with 8MB of memory but can be upgraded to 136MB. The network connectivity allows for increased office productivity and printer sharing options.

While the printing speed of 18 pages is not as fast as some other models, it is still fast enough to get most copy and print jobs done with ease. If you find that you are printing very large copy and print jobs on a regular basis, you might want to upgrade to a model that is capable of 20 pages or more. But for most small businesses and home offices, 18 pages is more than sufficient. 

Cons:

The paper capacity of 250 sheets is woefully lacking, considering the printing speed, and depending on the number of large copy and print jobs that are done. Even small businesses can go through over 500 sheets of paper in one day. Many offices buy the 500 sheet reams of paper. It is much more convenient to be able to drop the whole package into the tray, without having to worry about where the store the rest.

The Copystar CS-1810 provides only two functions – printing and copying. Today’s models can handle faxing and scanning as well, resulting in true multi-functionality. With space being limited in most small businesses and home offices, having an extra unit for scanning, and an extra unit for faxing can be very limiting. It is also less convenient to have to go from one unit to another in order to get all of your work done. This can cut down on overall productivity, costing the company endless dollars.
