Copystar CS-1500 Review
The Copystar CS-1500 is a great first copier. Not only is it relatively cheap to buy, it also does a quite efficient job that's suits the needs of small businesses. This desktop copier is a perfect purchase for people with a home or small office, as it requires relatively little space to accommodate.
The Copystar CS-1500 has a copy speed of 15 copies per minute, which is a very good copier for people with a small budget. The maximum monthly volume is set as 15,000 pages per month. It contains a standard 250 sheet paper drawer, and a 50 sheet multipurpose tray which is more than what is expected from a budget copier. This Copystar copier also boasts an impressive output resolution of 600 dpi.
The Copystar CS-1500 is capable of handling many kinds of documents. Input media types include colored paper, letter heads and adhesive mailing labels as well as pre-drilled and pre-printed stocks. It is also capable of reducing or enlarging a document 50% to 200% of the original (in 1% increments).
The dimensions (with the optional document processor attached) are 19.5"W x 16.6"D x 17.9"H and weight approximately 30.9 lbs. This makes the copier very well suited in a lot of different work spaces and offices.
As expected, this copier comes with 16MB of memory, allowing scanning once and printing many. This can be upgraded to either 32MB, 64MB or 128MB (this is completely optional).
One of the major advantages is the 100,000 copy drum. It costs around $300 per 100,00 copies for a new drum. The toner type is a cartridge which can cost around $70, depending on where you buy from. This gives an estimated 6,000 pages at 6% page coverage. The developer also allows 100,000 copies for around $60. This allows the copier to be run fairly cheaply compared to its nearest rivals. These prices are for genuine Copystar products. Compatible cartridges can be bought at a cheaper price, although for maximum quality genuine refills are recommended. It is important to take into account that the page yield is not 100% accurate, and that the actual yield can be altered depending on certain factors. For example, the size of the paper you are using can affect it, as well as how much content is getting printed to the pages. If you are just printing out and copying letterheads, it will obviously get much more usage than if you print out full page documents. You printer settings can also affect the page yield the copier produces.
For a small business and first time buyer, this copier is highly recommended. If you encounter any errors or faults with the copier, there is help on the Internet including an operational guide, which can be of much help - especially to people with little or no knowledge and experience of operating a copier.
With budget copiers, there are also some slight downfalls. The CS-1500 copies only in black, because of its laser print capabilities. Some may argue that the run speed of 15 copies per minute is too low, but for a small end business this is more than enough. This is the same for the 15,000 printed pages per month; many people will find it very hard to max this out per month.
This particular copier doesn't allow automatic two sided printing, only manual. This can cause a nuisance in people who are wanting to work fast and could affect the work flow. In terms of price, only the person buying it can decide whether it is cheap or not. But when you look at all of the features it does have, it really is good value for money.
There is no doubt in the performance this copier can produce, being very reliable and dependable. It has sufficient features for the price providing excellent value for money. It is also fairly easy to use after being set up correctly. Overall the Copystar CS-1500 is a very good and versatile copier. It offers what is expected from a desktop copier and is well suited for start ups and first time buyers.
