When do I Replace a Carriage Assembly in the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer?
You should replace the carriage assembly if:
The system error [11:10] occurs – The HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer has detected a trailing cable failure. You must replace the installed carriage assembly with a new one.
[02:10] – An indication for a carriage failure. Please install a new carriage assembly.
[11:11] – You should reconnect the trailing cable to the electronics module, and then test the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer. Please replace the installed carriage assembly if the problem persists.
[86:11] – You must turn the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer off, ensure that the Paper-Axis Drive Motor Assembly is correctly installed and that the cover of the carriage is closed, and then test the printer. Please replace the carriage assembly if the error occurs again.
[58:10] – The machine has detected a hardware problem with the color sensor system. You must replace the installed carriage assembly with a new one.
[94:10] – A color calibration failure. You should switch the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer off, wait at least a minute, and then switch the printer back on. If the error code still appears, you should check the installed printheads for correct installation and function, and replace them if necessary. Please replace the carriage assembly if the problem persists.
How to Install a Carriage Assembly in the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer
To replace the carriage assembly, you must remove all of the listed components from the printer.
1. Top cover
2. Center cover
3. Right end cover
4. Left end cover
5. Electronics module
6. Power supply unit
7. Service station
8. Ink supply tubes
All removal and replacement procedures are listed (in the correct order of execution) below.
Top Cover
You must switch the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer off, unplug the power cable, and then open the top cover. After that, you must remove the top cover by releasing the clips.
Center Cover
Once you have removed the top cover, you must release the ink supply tubes from the raceway holder, and then remove the raceway holder from the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer. Next, you must release the ink tubes from the retaining clips of the center cover, and then remove the six mounting screws from the center cover. After that, you must open the printhead door, and then detach the center cover from the main unit.
Right End Cover
You must detach the sensor from the right end cover, and then remove the screws securing the right end cover and the right side bracket to the printer chassis. After that, you must remove the right end cover by releasing the clips.
Left End Cover
You must disconnect the cable of the control panel from the rear panel, and then detach the rear left trim by removing its mounting screw. After that, you must remove the screw from the left side bracket, and then remove the left end cover by releasing the clips.
Electronics Module
Initially, you must remove the plastic cover that protects the electronics module, and then unplug all cables from the main PCA. After that, you must remove the three screws securing the electronics module and the power supply unit to the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer, and then remove the plastic protector. Now, you must remove the mounting screw from the electronics module, and then release the plastic sheet securing the trailing cable to the electronics module. Once you have released the plastic sheet, you must slide the electronics module together with the power supply unit to the right, and then detach the power supply unit from the electronics module by sliding it upwards. Finally, you must pull the electronics module slowly and carefully out of the printer.
Power Supply Unit
Once the electronics module is removed, you must disconnect the motor harness cable, and then remove the mounting screw from the grounding strip. After that, you must release the power socket by pressing its clips, and then remove the power supply unit by pulling it straight upwards.
Service Station
You must detach the reinforcement bracket from the main unit by removing the two screws, and then disconnect the cable of the service station. After that, you must turn the motor of the service station clockwise to uncap the carriage assembly, and then detach the carriage assembly from the service station by sliding it to the right. Now, you must pull the encoder strip out of the holder, and then detach the encoder strip holder from the printer by removing its mounting screw. Finally, you must pull the service station out of the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer.
Ink Supply Tubes
You must release the bracket of the ink supply tubes from the ink supply station, and then release the trailing cable support from the carriage assembly by removing the fixing screw. Next, you must remove the three screws securing the tube crane to the carriage assembly, and then release the PH cover by lifting the tube crane up. After that, you must remove the PH cover from the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer, and then remove the ink supply tubes.
Carriage Assembly
In the initial step of the replacement procedure, you must push the turnaround assembly to the right and release the belt from the carriage motor. After that, you must release the clip of the trailing cable from the main frame, and then release the trailing cable. Now, you must release the belt from the bottom of the used carriage assembly, and then remove the used/exhausted/defective component from the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer by sliding it to the right. Finally, you must install the new carriage assembly by executing the current procedure in reverse order, and then perform PRS adjustment.
When do I Replace a Carriage Drive Motor in the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer?
You should replace the carriage drive motor if any of the listed error codes appears on the LCD screen of your HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer.
[42:10] – The HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer has detected a carriage motor failure. You should replace the installed carriage drive motor with a new one.
[86:01] – This is an indication for a hardware problem. You should check the printer for paper jams, lubricate the slider rod, and replace the service station assembly. Please replace the installed carriage drive motor if the problem persists.
How to Install a Carriage Drive Motor in the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer
In the first step of the replacement procedure, you must open the top cover, and then release its clips. Next, you must remove the top cover, switch the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer off, and then unplug the power cord. After that, you must remove the raceway holder by releasing the ink supply tubes, and then remove the three screws securing the center cover to the main frame. Now, you must open the printhead door, and then remove the center cover from the main unit. Once the center cover is removed, you must detach the sensor from the right end cover, and then remove the screws from the right end cover and the right end bracket. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the right end cover by releasing the three clips, and then unplug the front panel cable. After that, you must detach the rear left trim by removing its mounting screw, and then remove the screw from the left side bracket. Next, you must remove the left end cover by releasing its clips, and then unplug the power cable from the carriage drive motor. Now, you must push the turnaround assembly to release the belt from the carriage drive motor, and then remove the two mounting screws from the carriage drive motor. Finally, you must pull the carriage drive motor out of the HP DesignJet 70 Wide Format InkJet Printer, and then install the replacement component by executing the current procedure in reverse order.
