Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 PictureMate Print Pack (OEM)

Price:  $58.89
Product Description
Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 PictureMate Print Pack (OEM)

This PictureMate Print Pack includes 150 sheets of photo paper + 1 ink cartridge.

How do Inkjet Cartridges work? Inkjet printers heat up the ink from your cartridge, and then "jet" fine dots of liquid ink onto your paper.

Product Manuals
Replacing the Photo Cartridge in an Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 InkJet Printer
The Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225’s video screen will produce a message when the photo cartridge is no longer usable. On this device, due to the high level of ink required for each photo print, cartridges will often run out mid-process. The process DOES NOT have to be cancelled if this happens. A photo cartridge can be replaced and then the printing process resumed, as long as the machine is not unplugged.

If you are curious as to how much toner is remaining in the current ink cartridge, this can be found out by first pressing the MENU button, then pressing left or right to highlight MAINTENANCE, then press OK. Use the arrow keys again to highlight CARTRIDGE STATUS, then press OK. An easy to understand image displaying the toner level will appear. The image screen can be exited by pressing OK.

Before the photo cartridge actually runs out, the machine will display a warning message that reads PHOTO CARTRIDGE LOW. When this message is displayed, the device can be used for a couple more prints but will soon run out. This is a good time to make sure an additional cartridge is on hand.

Old photo cartridge should not be removed until right before the new cartridge is to be installed. New cartridges, once opened, should be installed right away.

Leave the Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 on when changing a photo cartridge but make sure that it is not printing when you do so. The cartridge door can be found on the bottom back of the unit and can be pried open. Behind it will be seen a release lever and the photo cartridge itself.

Move the lever to the RELEASE position, then the cartridge can be removed and disposed of properly, preferably by recycling. Any ink that gets on the hands can be washed off with soap and warm water.

Remove a new photo cartridge from its package but be careful not to touch the green chip on the side of the cartridge at this could compromise performance. Slide the cartridge into the cartridge slot and it should click into place. The cartridge lever must then be moved to the LOCK position. Close the cartridge door and the unit will be ready to print.
Installing the Optional Battery in an Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 InkJet Printer
The Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 is designed as a portable photo printer, complete with an easy grip carrying handle. One of the ways to extend the device’s usefulness in this manner is to utilize the optional battery that can be purchased separately from the unit, allowing it to print cordlessly. The battery, when fully charged, can print about 100 photos.

Install the battery with the Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 turned OFF. Unplug the AC adapter as well. Remove the battery cover from the back of the printer and slide the right side of the battery into position first, then snap in the left. The battery can be charged by simply plugging in the printer with the AC adapter.

To remove the battery simply wait until all printing processes are done and unlatch it from the back, then replace the battery cover or the battery itself. Do not leave the battery port unprotected.

Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 Review

Very much resembling a small picnic basket when folded up, the Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 lives up to its namesake with sleek aesthetics and a compact size. The unit is not as high performing as its Show series brethren, but it also comes in a much less expensive package making it the preferable choice for many buyers.

The overhead cost for the Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 is not the only thing that separates it in price form its Epson cousins; it is also cheaper to purchase consumables for this device. As a more basic piece of hardware, it does not offer all the bells and whistles found on other photo printers but, again, it could very well be the perfect choice for those looking for a bargain.

The Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 folds down into a very cute, clean package with a handle on it for storage and extra convenient transportation. In this state, its dimensions are a mere 6.7 x 9.1 x 5.7 inches (W x D x H). When completely unfolded, it sits around at 13.5 x 9.1 x 10.5 inches (W x D x H), which is still perfectly normal for a photo printer with a fold out output tray. Its weight without any paper is also just under 8 pounds, making carrying the unit around even easier.

With a monitor that is only 2.5 inches diagonally, the Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 just barely does the trick as far as menu navigation and photo selection. While some Epson devices have view screens as large as 7 inches, this tiny screen makes it difficult to select options from the 8 buttons that appear on the screen. Still, the screen is full color and of high quality, making it just barely up to its task.

The Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225’s print times usually end up running over a minute, placing it on the slower end of the photo print scale. Like other Epson devices, the Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 is also limited only to a 4 x 6 inch size limitation, whereas brands such as HP throw in the additional option of printing to 5 x 7. Then again, those printers are full sized and the Charm is actually quite compact, so there is a trade off either way.

Though the Epson PictureMate Charm PM-225 is equipped with a variety of memory card slots, it does not come with a Bluetooth option as standard material. Users instead must purchase the Bluetooth hardware for about forty dollars. While keeping the price low with excluded features such as this is nice, users who require Bluetooth for photo printing are kind of out of luck.

With a starter ink cartridge that is only good for about 20 photo prints, the unit will quickly have to be restocked with consumables. Still, its cheap paper and cartridges bring its cost per photo to around 25 cents per, which is one of the cheapest you’ll find on the market. An available print pack includes both ink and paper, making it that much easier to restock the device as well.
