The “scan once, print many” feature also saves considerable amount of time and protects the originals as it allows multiple copying of up to 999 copies that then automatically resets to 1 without having to rescan over and over again. Zooming can be done 25% to 400% in increments of 1% in an exposure control that can be detected automatically or set manually in to text, photo or text-photo mode. For added versatility, it as well offers the convenience of Digital SkyShot that creates copies of small-sized and unusually-sized originals (e.g. oval-shaped) without generating unnecessary dark areas even with a cover open. There’s also the X-Y Zooming for specifying enlargement and reduction ratios and N-in-1/1-in-N Copying for copying multiple originals onto a single sheet. And for more efficient sorting and improved performance, the standard 24 MB page memory is expandable for up to a maximum 40 MB.
It does not only settle to be a copier as it can be a high-speed printer that’s as excellent delivering at 35 PPM (pages per minute) under three option for resolution namely 300 x 300 DPI, 600 x 600 DPI and 1,200 x 600 DPI with smoothing technology. Paper capacity is substantial at standard 1,150 paper sheets given by the dual 550-sheet paper tray and a 50-sheet bypass tray perfect for handling special media types including transparencies and envelopes. If this still sounds insufficient for your ultra-large paper handling needs, standard 1,150 paper sheets is expandable for up to a maximum 5,800 paper sheets. An Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) and Inverting Automatic Document Feeder (iADF) is as well offered to complement these feeders. Both paper feeders come standard with FP-7718 and are very helpful for feeding originals automatically and especially the iADF which is great for multi-size feeding and duplex copying. . It is significant aid from start to finish with it offering an optional Bin Sorter great for sorting, stacking and stapling copies after every print and copy jobs.
FP-D355’s functionality also can cut filing hassles as it can be upgraded to become an exclusive Hyper Document System (HDS). The HDS system automatically stores data on its built-in hard disk which will be very useful once printing is desired again for selected documents.
For just a monochrome copier and printer, a warm-up time of approximately 75 seconds is disappointing as there are many available monochrome copiers and printers with warm-up time of only less than 30 seconds. Mobility can be a hassle as well with the relatively heavy weight at approximately 167.6 lbs.
Operating system compatibility is also a hassle as by default, it is incompatible to newer operating systems including Windows XP, Vista and 7 since its compatibility are on operating systems prior to its release and so driver/s (if available, which may be found directly in the official manufacturer’s site) is/are needed to be downloaded and installed to be compatible with these operating systems.
