How to Install a Center Platen Cover Assembly in the HP DesignJet 1055cm Wide Format InkJet Printer
Initially, you must switch off your HP DesignJet 1055cm Wide Format InkJet Printer, and then unplug the power cord. After that, you must open the front cover of the main unit, and then carefully remove the 29 T-10 screws from the exhausted center platen assembly. Please be aware that the T-10 screws can be damaged very easily. Now, you must remove the exhausted platen assembly from the inkjet printer, and then unpack the new component. Once the new platen assembly is prepared, you must insert into the HP DesignJet 1055cm Wide Format InkJet Printer, and then use the 29 T-10 screws to fix the new component into place (do not exceed a torque of 10psi on the screws). Please make sure that the heads of the screws do not interfere with the media path. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must close the front cover, and then execute the following maintenance procedures (the complete maintenance procedures are included further below): Carriage Height Calibration, Service Station Calibration, and Color-to-Color Calibration. Please note that a Carriage Height Tool is included with new Center Platen Assembly.
Carriage Height Calibration Procedure
Initially, you must detach the connector of the ink leak detector from the rear panel of the HP DesignJet 1055cm Wide Format InkJet Printer, remove the EMC cover, and then open the carriage cover. After that, you must insert the Carriage Height Tool (supplied with the new Center Platen Assembly) into the black cartridge slot, and then close the carriage cover. Now, you must loosen (do not remove) the two screws at the back of the carriage assembly, and then move the carriage assembly back and forth by using the belt. Please skip the next step if you did not hear a scraping sound while moving the carriage assembly. Next, you must turn the T-9 screw in a counterclockwise direction to slightly lower the carriage assembly, and then check if the carriage moves freely. If you still hear a scraping sound, you should try to solve the problem by raising the carriage (turn the T-9 screw in a clockwise direction). Once the carriage is properly calibrated, you must tighten the two screws at the back of the carriage assembly, and then finalize the maintenance procedure by removing the Cartridge Height Tool.
Service Station Calibration
You must load media bigger than A4 into the input tray of your HP DesignJet 1055cm Wide Format InkJet Printer, and then select the [Service Calibrations] submenu. After that, you must select [3. Service Station], and then [ACCEPT]. Please note that the printer will display the following messages during the calibration: [Performing service position calibration], [Performing drop detector calibration], [Performing printer calibration], and [Performing platen distance calibration]. Once the service station calibration is completed, the printer will display the following message [Service station calibration finished].
In the first step, you must load E/A0 size HP Gloss Photo Paper or HP Coated media, and then select the [Service Calibrations] submenu. Next, you must select [6. Color to Color cal.], and then [ACCEPT]. Once the following message [Color to Color calibrated] is displayed, you must trim the calibration pattern from the media roll by pressing [Form Feed] and [Cut].
