HP LaserJet P2055 Review
HP's LaserJet P2055 is a relatively small printer that would likely perform best in busy home office or small office environments with low to moderate paper throughput. Though it lacks a large capacity in its standard configuration and sophisticated paper finishing options, it may be more than satisfactory for users in such situations.
The printer measures 14.3" by 14.5" by 10.5" when closed and 14.3" by 26.7" by 10.5" when its trays and doors are open and weighs approximately 22 lbs before any paper is added, making it relatively easy to fit alongside other equipment on a desk or a table, as well as on a dedicated piece of furniture such as a cabinet or a credenza.
The P2055 produces documents at a maximum speed of up to 33 pages per minute, faster than the industry standard 20 pages per minute but slower than some newer models' advertised speeds of upwards of 40-50 pages per minute. It has a first page out of 8 pages per second and a recommended monthly page volume of 750 to 3000 pages and a monthly duty cycle of up to 50000 pages, making it a poor fit for environments that process multiple reams of paper on a weekly basis.
The printer produces documents at a maximum resolution of 1200 by 1200 dpi, consistent with most other monochrome laser printers.
The P2055 features 64 MB of memory standard and has a maximum memory capacity of 320 MB, as well as a 600 MHz processor. It does not, however, have a hard drive or support for a hard drive like higher end all-in-ones and large office printers do.
The P2055 supports printing in the HP PCL5c, HP PCL 6, and emulated Postscript level 3 languages.
The printer ships with 2 paper trays standard and supports a maximum of 3 paper trays. Its standard trays are a 50 sheet multipurpose tray and a 250 sheet input tray, and a 500 sheet paper tray can be added to bring the printer's capacity up to 800 sheets. The P2055 also includes a 150 sheet output bin.
The P2055's main paper tray supports printing to A4, A5, and A6 sized sheets, as does its optional paper tray. The multipurpose tray supports printing to A4, A5, A6, and B5 sized paper, as well as C5, B5, and DL envelopes. Custom media sizes between 3" by 5" and 8.5" by 14" are possible in the printer's multipurpose tray, and the main tray supports documents as small as 4" by 5.8" and as large as 8.5" by 14". Supported paper types include bond paper, light paper, heavy paper, plain paper, recyced paper, rough paper, envelopes, labels, cardstock, transparencies, and heavy media.
The P2055 ships wth a USB 2.0 port. A wireless print server is available as an add-on. The printer is compatible with Windows 2000 and newer, as well as Mac OS 10.3.9 and newer.
Duplex printing and other paper handling options are unavailable on this model. Many newer small office and home office laser printers, as well as inkjets, offer duplex printing as a standard configuration option, making this model a poor choice for users who want such functionality. Users looking for this should consider purchasing the P2055d instead, and users looking for built-in network support on this exact model should consider the P2055n, which would feature network support built in.
