Lanier LD-151 Review
The Lanier LD-151 is a multifunction printer that along with LD-160 and LD-175, offers a convenient office solution to extraordinarily large quantities of tasks, be it for print, copy and scan functions. Built to handle fast and high volume jobs with reliable efficiency and quality, the Lanier LD-151 is one multifunction machine that can be considered one of the most powerful multifunction printers in the market, even when compared to today’s most recent models.
The Lanier LD-151 boasts speeds of up to 51 pages per minute for its copy and print outputs, with a first copy time of approximately 4.2 seconds. This is quite fast for multifunction printers, as these machines tend to be slower due to sharing memory and processing power among their functions. The Lanier LD-151 employs a four laser-beam scanning and electrophotographic printing process, with an efficient print memory running on 384MB. Such a large memory enables the Lanier LD-151 to maintain its speed and efficiency as there is enough memory to go around with for its print and scan functions. Resolution is standard at 1200 dots per inch, which applies for both copy and print functions. The Lanier LD-151 also includes a 40 GB hard disk drive and a standard 128 MB for its RAM. Its document server is capable of storing up to 3,000 documents, where in 2,000 pages constitute a file. Stored files are delivered via scan-to-mail or scan-to-folder options, and can also be done simultaneously.
The Lanier LD-151 paper capacity is as impressive as any multifunction printer in the market, with a standard capacity of 4,300 sheets. Such a capacity is not even matched by other multifunction machines even if the optional upgrades for paper storage and capacity are considered. It is divided into two 1,550 sheet tandem trays, two 550-sheet standard trays and one 100-sheet bypass tray. As if the 4,300-sheet capacity is not enough to handle bulk print, copy and scan jobs, the Lanier LD-151 allows an option for adding a large capacity tray that brings its maximum paper capacity to 8,300 sheets. This includes an option for having a 3,000-sheet finisher with a 50-sheet stapler, and a 3,000-sheet finisher with saddle-stitch. Interposer, Hole Punch and a 9-bin Mail Box are also included as optional accessories for the Lanier LD-151. Duplex support has unlimited capacity and is available for copy, print and scan functions. Special features include Batch Mode, Auto Tray Switching, Combine Originals, Energy Saver Mode, Job Preset up to 8 jobs, Scan Once/Print Many, Tab Printing and 500 User Codes to allow office users a more convenient way to set up their tasks.
Network connectivity and protocol support for the Lanier LD-151 is also outstanding, with its standard Ethernet 10/100Base TX and an optional Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 1394 for connectivity, with TCP/IP, PCL/PS3/PCL5e and PCL 6 for network protocol. Supported platforms are also diverse, with Windows, MAC and UNIX and their corresponding distributions compatible with the Lanier LD-151.
The Lanier LD-151 has a fast duplex scan speed of 75 originals per minute, with an imaging solution of 600 dpi for its optical resolution. Accepted output formats are PDF, TIFF and JPEG, with options for Scan-to-Email, Scan-to-Folder and LDAP, which allows users to access email addresses directly from a global address book or corporate email system. The Lanier LD-151 also include a PDF Direct Print option without any printer driver, utility software that includes SmartDeviceMonitor, DesktopBinder Lite and Printer Utility for MAC users. A Web Image Monitor is also included to check machine status, view and handle document server and monitor job logs remotely from a PC among other features.
If there were to be a downside for the Lanier LD-151, it would be its hefty and heavy design. As a high-volume multifunction printer/copier, the Lanier LD-151 has dimensions measuring 28" x 30" x 46", which eats up space which would not be ideal if it were to be situated on a small office, while its weight that registers 447.6 lbs makes it quite difficult to move around or transport.
