Lexmark Optra T430dn Printer Review
The Lexmark Optra T430dn Laser Printer is a fast monochrome device, network ready, featuring automatic two sided printing, delivering around 2 pages per second and with a fast delivery of the first page. The printer is small, easy to use and the cartridges are offering high yield for a home or small company printer.
The Lexmark T430dn delivers 30 pages per minute for an average of two pages per second. With the two sided printing activated, you will get 16 sheets per minute (printer on both sides). Letter size pages are printed even faster, with 32 pages per minute for an A4 and 17 sheets per minute with the duplexer. The first page will come out in about 8 seconds if the printer hasn't been used before. The printer works at a maximum resolution of 1200 x 1200 dots per inch and at a standard resolution of 600 x 600 dots per inch. The Lexmark T430dn is powered up by a 366 MHz processor and features 64 MB RAM, expandable to 320 MB through the available DIMM slots. Lexmark usually produces printers with great support for operating systems and they didn't disappoint with this model either. The printer supports Apple Mac OS 8.6+, Apple Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows 2000+, Red Hat Linux 7.3+, SUSE Linux 8+, Red Flag Linux 4+, Linpus Linux Desktop 9.2+, Asianux Linux 1, Citrix, MetaFrame, MetaFrame XP, Novell NetWare 3.2+, IBM AIX 5.1+, Sun Solaris SPARC 8+, HP-UX 11+ and many, many others. I can bet there's not an operating system that doesn't work well with this printer. The standard input is assured by a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and a 250-sheet input tray for a total of 350 sheets. The output is up to 150 sheets thanks to a 150-sheet output bin. However, there are some optional paper handling available, but you will have to pay for them: you can get another 250-sheet drawer and a 500-sheet drawer. The envelope capacity is up to 10. The Lexmark T430dn supports the following media types: card stock, envelopes, labels, plain paper and transparencies. The media size supported are 10 Envelope, 7 3/4 Envelope, 9 Envelope, A4, A5, B5 Envelope, C5 Envelope, DL Envelope, Executive, Folio, JIS-B5, Legal, Letter, Statement and Universal. The printer can connect through the standard Centronics IEEE 1284 Bidirectional Parallel, the Ethernet 10/100 Base TX (RJ-45) and through the available USB 2.0. For additional money the users can connect the printer through some optional network ports, such as the External Ethernet 10 Base T/2 or the External Token-Ring, but this comes as optional. The monthly duty cycle is set at 65.000 pages, which is more than enough for a home or small office printer. Though its features are very good, this model is definitely not designed for large companies with high printing volume. The producer advises the users not to print more than 65.000 pages per month, as this will considerably decrease the printer's life. However, with the monthly duty cycle set so high, I doubt you will have to be afraid of that. On the other side there's the minimum monthly duty cycle. It is set between 1000 and 2500 pages per month. If you want your printer to always work at optimal parameters, then you should always print between those ranges. The product is Energy Star Qualified, meaning it will consume far less energy than some of its competitors.
It's difficult to find bad parts at this model, it is just a very good printer worth having home. Not big, not expensive, it comes with everything included in the box. You might actually want to try it, we recommend it. |
