Overview:

The heavy duty Lexmark X364dn Multifunctional Printer is capable of producing up to 35 pages per minute, easily placing in the professional level laser printer category, and yet the unit is priced as a mid grade unit. It also includes a flat bed scanner that allows for both scan and copy functions to be executed by the machine, making it a great choice for those who require high speeds and a relatively low price.

Pros:

With a print speed of 35 pages per minute, the Lexmark X364dn Multifunctional Printer is a perfect printer for network sharing because, regardless of the demand placed on it, the unit will not leave people waiting in line. Its included 50 page automatic document feeder is another powerful inclusion to the hardware and makes loading and unloading very large amounts of input material for scanning or copying very easy.

The unit is network friendly, and gives all connected users the ability to both print and scan. The unit also comes with built in duplex capabilities, making it easy to automatically print two sided output. When printing duplex material, documents and pamphlets are given a professional look and paper usage can be reduced by as much as half. High capacity toner cartridges are another way users can count on reducing overall cost per page.

The Lexmark X364dn Multifunctional Printer’s 250 sheet paper tray is fairly straightforward and is accompanied by a 50 sheet multifunctional tray. This additional tray is a welcome addition over the lower end model in the series, the X264dn’s, single sheet bypass slot that allows only one piece of input to be fed at a time. Another great improvement in this version of the model is a boost in memory up to 128 MBs compared to only 64 MBs. Additional memory as well as paper storage can be added to the unit, resulting in a maximum potential paper storage capacity of 550 sheets.

One of the most notable aspects of the Lexmark X364dn Multifunctional Printer is found in its ADF. While most automatic document feeders can only load and scan a single side of each input page, this ADF features a reversing element that allows it to copy or scan dual sided input and, with the built in duplexor, two sided copies can be made completely automatically.

Cons:

Unfortunately, the scan function of the Lexmark X364dn Multifunctional Printer has been reported to be occasionally problematic. Though the machine is obviously designed to be shared over a network, some have reported that scanning cannot be done when connected to a single host PC by way of a USB cable; an unforgivable oversight on Lexmark’s part. Additionally, Lexmark’s customer service is quite often outright terrible, though the device does come with a one year limited replacement policy.

The Lexmark X364dn Multifunctional Printer’s text quality is also, though acceptable, sub par for the category. While the printed text will pass for business use, imagery printing on this monochrome device is not recommended. Any font printed smaller than 8 points is not easily legible.
