Lexmark X463 Review
Simply put: the Lexmark X463DE is just plain too expensive. This impressive piece of hardware is capable of executing multiple functions at notably high speeds and at excellent quality, but its strong points to not spare it from being unreasonably overpriced. With units available for up to a thousand dollars, the printer costs about as much as an equivalent color laser MFC should, yet this limited Lexmark prints only in bland monochrome.
No fax modem is incorporated into the Lexmark X463DE model, making it a solid 3 in 1 device that is capable of printing, scanning, and copying. The feature that sets this model apart from others in this all too crowded category is its overall performance. With an advertised print speed of 40 pages per minute, the unit will overtake many of its competitors in the raw speed category.
As stated earlier, it really is the price of the Lexmark X463DE that just makes it completely unappealing to the educated buyer. On top of this, the device (being a Lexmark) drastically underperforms when compared to its advertised print speed. Using the E460 base printer hardware with a scan glass attached, the printer boasts a print speed of 40 pages per minute. Unfortunately, unless the print conditions match very specific ones used in a controlled lab test, the device will not be able to print anywhere near this speed. In fact, it will often print at a speed that is less than half of what is advertised.
