Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 Review
The Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 is one of the more advanced color laser printers offered by Konica Minolta among the printer in its MagiColor series, offering improved power and rather impressive line of features that are sure to make offices and business work groups avail of this versatile color laser printer from Konica Minolta.
Konica Minolta's Emperon controller, which is equipped in the Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450, allows printing at impressive speeds, clocking at a rate of up to 25 pages per minute for both monochrome and color print outputs. Such speeds are for A4 paper types, which are comparable to middle to high end laser printers in the market. First print out results are as impressive, with monochrome prints being finished as fast as 9.5 seconds while color ones print as fast as 11.5 seconds. Warm up time for the Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 registers at 99 seconds. For its print resolution, it has a standard 600 x 600 dots per inch through its 4-bit PhotoART contone that makes print outs have better detail and clarity.
The Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 is powered by a FreeScale PowerPC processor with a 733 MHz capacity, enabling this color laser printer to handle print tasks with unparalleled efficiency and consistency. For its memory, the Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 provides a standard 256 MB capacity, which, while impressive enough as common laser printers only have a meager memory at 64 MB or more up to 128 MB, can still be upgraded to a maximum of 1 GB for handling more complex and difficult print jobs. The Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 also has an optional hard disk storage for virtual space and to handle fonts and forms storage, job spooling, accounting and collation. The optional hard disk can support up to 30 GB memory space, which only increases the Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450's capability to handle more tasks in a much more efficient manner.
Connectivity for the Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 features Gigabit Ethernet for networked work groups, CP/IP, EtherTalkIPX/SPX, NetBIOS, IPP 1.1, SNMP, SMB, HTTP and HTTPS support, bidirectional IEEE1284 parallel, a high speed USB 2.0 and PictBridge, which allows for direct printing from USB-enabled devices such as digital cameras.
Paper handling with the Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 features a standard cassette with a 250-sheet capacity and a multipurpose tray with a capacity to hold 100 sheets for special media types and even customized ones. Maximum paper input capacity can be up to 1,850 sheets, which makes the Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 ideal for handling up to mid-level volume print production. Output paper capacity is set at 350 sheets for its face-down output tray. The Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 also has a paper feeder unit with a 500-sheet capacity. Automatic duplexing is enabled for faster printing that also allows users to save costs through printing at two paper sides simultaneously. Its duplexer accepts A3, A3 wide, A4, A5, executive, letter, G-letter, folio, legal, G-legal, statement and UK Quarto among others.
The Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 also has standard CF card reader that can be used for profile, font, overlay, macro downloads and PDF, JPEG and TIFF direct printing, only boosting the capabilities that this color laser printer has. Supported operating system environments include Windows from Windows 98 to Windows XP, Macintosh OS X 10.2 or higher and varied Linux operating system distributions. Printer fonts for the Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 are standard PostScript (137), PCL scalable fonts (93), symbol sets (50) and standard line printer fonts (10).
As with other color laser printers that Konica Minolta offers, the Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 is relatively hefty thus making it a bit cumbersome for certain users that prefer a more mobile printer type. Its dimensions are 648 x 606 x 477 mm and its weight registers at 133 lbs., which makes the case of the Konica Minolta MagiColor 7450 lack of mobility.
