Canon MultiPASS C5000 Review
The Canon MultiPASS C5000 is a multifunction printer that uses a space saving design without sacrificing the functionality of any of the functions of the C5000. This machine is a color printer, fax, copier and a color scanner in one. The C5000 is perfect in a home office or small office setting where there is sufficient amount of work for all the functions of this machine but not too many to affect the machine’s performance.
The Canon MultiPASS C5000 is a bubble jet multifunction printer that weighs only 12.3 pounds and measures 15.7” x 14.4” x 7.8”. The C5000 is mainly a printer but it has some other features, as well. The other functions this machine delivers to the small or home office includes a scanner, a fax, and a copier. These other functions are able to produce quality results and greatly improve the efficiency of the office when it comes to document processing.
The Canon MultiPASS C5000’s printer uses Canon’s bubble jet ink technology that allows it to print at speeds of up to 5 pages per minute for black and 2 pages per minute for color with a maximum resolution of 720 x 360 dpi for both black and white and color prints. The media type the C5000 supports includes Envelopes, Fabric, Transparencies, Plain Paper, Greeting Cards, and High Gloss Film. These types of media can be any size less than 8.5” x 14” specifically Letter, A4, Legal, US #10, and International Envelope sizes. Feeding documents using the Canon MultiPASS C5000 uses both manual and automatic methods. The total capacity the C5000 can handle is up to 100 sheets of paper.
Scanning using the integrated sheetfed scanner is easy. The scans of the C5000 are rated at 300 x 300 dpi optical resolution while the interpolated resolution is much better at 600 x 600 dpi. The grayscale depth of the scanner is 256 colors, and the scanner can detect up to 16.7 million colors for high quality color scans.
The Canon MultiPASS C5000 has an integrated digital copier and copies documents at a rate of 3 pages per minute for both black and color. The resolution for copied documents is 360 x 360 dpi. The maximum document size that can be fed into the copier is 8.5” x 14”. Copied documents are reduced in size by as much as 70% of the original; other reductions are 80% and 90%.
The Canon MultiPASS C5000 uses a fax interface card that is connected to a phone line to transmit faxes. The fax modem’s maximum transfer rate is rated at 14.4 Kbps, although slower speeds are also supported.
The C5000 uses a 120 V or 220 V supply for operation. This multifunction machine consumes 48 W during operation and only 8.4 W when the machine is on standby. During operation the C5000 emits noise of up to 47 dBA and the Canon MultiPASS C5000 optimally operates between temperatures of 50 degrees Fahrenheit and 90.5 degrees Fahrenheit. The C5000 is connected to a computer using a parallel connection.
A major disadvantage in getting a Canon MultiPASS C5000 is its compatibility with newer versions of Windows such as Windows XP.
The copier only reduces document size; there is no option for enlargement of a document which sometimes will be necessary.
The Canon MultiPASS C5000 is not designed for heavy office work and the efficiency of the machine and its functions are greatly affected when it’s pushed to the limit.
