Product Description
HP PhotoSmart 475 TriColor OEM Ink Cartridge - 330 Pages

This tri-color inkjet cartridge prints 330 pages. Page Yield is based on HPs manufacturer specifications. The actual yield can vary depending on factors including: the size of paper you are using, your printers settings, etc.

How do tricolor ink cartridges work? Inkjet printers heat up the ink from your cartridge, and then 'jet' fine dots of liquid ink onto paper. Tricolor ink cartridges contain cyan, magenta and yellow inks and combine them to reproduce the full color spectrum.

HP PhotoSmart 475 Review

Overview:

The HP PhotoSmart 475 compact printer is a unique little printer, and it is opposite from other printers because of its size. It only weighs 3.3 pounds (9.8”W x 8.9”D x 6.7”H) and can be carried around with one hand (it resembles a small radio or purse), but the reason for its size is because it only prints photos. There is only one paper tray available for this size of printer, and the only documents that can be printed are photos and cards (because of their size). Also, there is a preview screen that shows the photos before they are printed, and photos can even be edited during this time.

Pros:

One of the best features for the HP PhotoSmart 475 printer is the capability to connect to different networking, and some of these connections include USB, PC and Macintosh. There are also four memory card slots where the photos can be downloaded to the printer, and there is also a TV output so that the photos and slideshows can be previewed. With these connection options there are some operating systems that are compatible with the printer and these include Windows 98 and 2000, XP home and professional, and Mac OS.

Surprisingly the printing quality and technology is very high for a device as small as the HP PhotoSmart 475 printer, and photos that are printed on this device come out looking sharp and clear. The printer uses a HP Thermal Inkjet to print out the photos, and resolution for the ink is up to 4800 x 1200 dpi for color ink and 1200 x 1200 dpi for black ink. The colors available for the ink cartridges include cyan, magenta, and yellow (black and gray are optional), and all inks are dye-based.

Also, even though the HP PhotoSmart 475 compact printer is small it can print a sufficient amount of photos for its size, and the paper capacity is 20 pages for the input setting and 20 for the output. There is only one paper tray because it is too small to have any more than this, and the device is sheet fed. The standard media weight that the printer can handle is 16 to 24 pounds, and the only types of media that can be printed on this small printer are photos and cards.

Cons:

A feature about the HP PhotoSmart 475 printer that can be problematic is that fact that there are specific ink cartridges to buy, and cheaper ink cartridges that have the same color and affect cannot work with the device. This can be frustrating because the only difference is the price, but the machine will not recognize the other ink and so it will not work.

Also, the HP PhotoSmart 475 compact printer may only print photos, but the photo needs to sit and cool for a while before it is touched because if someone touches it when it is still cooling the photo can smear. This issue could happen due to the fact that the picture comes out of the printer hot and because it is a small device it will use a lot of heat, so if the picture does not cool off first it will smear when its touched. Also, the ink can be runny at times when the photo comes out, and this usually occurs when the ink cartridge is close to being finished and sometimes the cartridge will need to be changed before it completely runs out or else it will make the photos runny.

The HP PhotoSmart 475 printer uses memory cards, and after the pictures are added to the printer it mixes the photos up on the preview screen. For example, if someone puts their pictures onto the printer they will have to flip through the photos that are out of order and disarrayed to reorganize them before printing. Doing this takes a lot of time and effort because the pictures should be added in order, and yet they are not and time is wasted flipping through photos to reorganize them.
