HP Color LaserJet CP1020 Review

Many printers offer the ability to print out in black and white and in color, as is the case with the HP Color LaserJet CP1020. This machine can print out at fairly high speeds, and fairly high quality with some useful functions that would suit a home office or small office well. Pros:

This is a printer that focuses mainly on its print speed, which is helpful for someone looking to print out fast, but stay within a budget when purchasing a new device. It can print out at 16 pages per minute when printing in A4 size paper. This can be increased by 1, to 17 pages every minute if you are printing in letter sized paper. This however is only when you are printing in black and white. If you deiced to print in color, the speed dramatically drops and can only achieve 4 pages per minute. If you are mainly printing in black and white, then this speed will suit a small home business perfectly, and means you can use the color functionality as and when you need it.

The tray in which holds the paper is also a very important factor. This determines how often you will have to change the paper tray. It can in fact hold 150 sheets of 75 g/m2. This is a good amount as long as you are not printing out a lot of pages per day. Constantly changing the paper tray can take time, and therefore affect your workflow. If you are working in an office that is fairly larger than three to four people, then printing a lot can use this up in no time. This is especially true if the office is reliant on the printer to complete the majority of the office jobs.

One neat little offer that HP has decided to offer is that the product comes with ink already. This means you can instantly use the product without the worry of buying the wrong ink, or discovering how to change it. It's as simple as plugging in and printing.

Cons:

There are a few downsides to this product that will affect a lot of offices. The first one is the way in which the printer connects. It doesn't have network connectivity. This means that in order to connect to the device, then the user must connect through USB. Although the USB is a high speed 2.0, it will affect your workflow if there is more than one computer trying to connect to it. This means that in order for every computer to connect, the user will manually have to plug it in before using it. Spending out on a network able printer can most of the time be worth it, especially if you are working in a larger office. If you are working with just one or two computers, then this might be fine to just use USB, depending on personal preference.

It doesn’t come with duplex printing, which means the user will have to manually change the paper around themselves if they wish to print on both sides of paper. Many companies want this now, as it saves them paper and money, so workflow could be affected if every individual piece of paper has to be put in the printer the other way around manually.

The size of the paper tray can also be a nuisance, as well as only having the ability to print 4 pages a minute in color. Fast color printing might be what the office mainly needs, and if his is the case, this printer should be avoided.


For a reasonable printing speed in black and white, at a low price, then the HP Color LaserJet CP1020 is something that can be relied on. It does though have some disadvantages, such as the inability to print fast in color, and the lack of duplex printing.
