This Toner Cartridge prints 6000 pages with an average 5% page coverage. The amount of pages can vary depending upon the amount of ink printed onto each page. (5% page coverage is a standard Sharp specification)

Why toner? Why not call it ink? Regular ink dries quickly, which is why cartridges for inkjet printers do not last long. Laser Printers use toner, which is ink in the form of powder. A sealed toner cartridge can be stored for 2+ years prior to usage.

When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the Sharp AL-1642 Laser Printer?

The lifespan of the toner cartridge installed in your Sharp AL-1642 Laser Printer depends mainly on the average print density (the amount of toner that your printing tasks require). You can extend the useful life of the installed toner cartridge by enabling the Toner Save Mode. Please follow the detailed instructions provided below to enable/disable the Toner Save Mode.

Enabling/Disabling Toner Save Mode

You must make sure that the laser printer is on (but not printing), and then select the [Manual] mode by pressing the [Exposure Mode Selector] key. After that, you must press and hold down the [Exposure Mode Selector] key until the exposure indicator [5] lights up, and then press the [Decrease Exposure] key two times. Please press the [Increase Exposure] key two times if you want to disable the Toner Save Mode. Finally, you must press the [Exposure Mode Selector] key.

The installed toner cartridge should be replaced with a new one when the [Add Toner] indicator lights up. Please follow the detailed instructions provided below to install a new toner cartridge in your Sharp AL-1642 Laser Printer.

How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the Sharp AL-1642 Laser Printer

You must start the replacement procedure by opening the multi-bypass tray and the side cover of your Sharp AL-1642 Laser Printer. Then, you must open the front cover. After that, you must pull the exhausted toner cartridge out of the laser printer while pressing the lock release button that is located on the top side of the exhausted component. Once the exhausted toner cartridge is removed, you must prepare the replacement toner cartridge for installation by taking it out of the protective packaging, shaking it seven-eight times horizontally, and then removing the shutter cover. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must align the new toner cartridge with the slot, and then slide the new component firmly into place. Finally, you must close the front cover, and then close the side cover of your Sharp AL-1642 Laser Printer.

The Sharp AL-1642 offers many outstanding features at an affordable price. This device offers copying, printing, and faxing capabilities. Output quality is superb.

Pros:

This unit can handle a variety of media types including transparencies, envelopes, recycled paper, and regular paper. The Sharp AL-1642 comes with a legal size platen glass.

The Sharp AL-1642 packs 8MB of memory and can print 99 copies continuously from a single document. Users can choose from one of three exposure modes when making copies which include auto, manual, and photo. In photo mode you will get a resolution of 600 X 600 dpi.

One of the best features of this device is that it comes with duplexing. Duplex printing will save you money since you will use a lot less paper.

Cons:

The Sharp AL-1642 is large and will take up a lot of space. It weighs 51 pounds which makes it hard to move. This unit may pose a problem when it comes to finding space for it in your office.
Some of the features that it lacks are PCL or PostScrip emulation. The Sharp AL-1642 also lacks a stapler and automatic sorting.
