Why toner? Why not call it ink? Regular ink dries quickly, which is why cartridges for inkjet printers do not last long. Laser Printers use toner, which is ink in the form of powder. A sealed toner cartridge can be stored for 2+ years prior to usage.

When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the Sharp AR-285 Digital Copying Machine?

The Sharp AR-285 Digital Copying Machine is equipped with a toner level monitoring system, which will display a warning message when the toner cartridge needs to be replaced. Once the toner in the toner cartridge becomes too low, you will see the following message ‘’TONER SUPPLY IS LOW. PRESS [I] FOR GUIDANCE’’ appearing in the AR-285`s display. You should replace the toner cartridge in this situation. However, if you decide to continue using the copier with the nearly empty toner cartridge, the printing/copying quality will be drastically decreased and all copies will gradually become lighter. Eventually, the toner cartridge will be completely exhausted, and you will see the following message ‘’ADD TONER. PRESS [I] FOR GUIDANCE’’ appearing in the display. Once the above message is displayed, all printing/copying operations will be blocked, until the exhausted cartridge is replaced with a new one.

How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the Sharp AR-285 Digital Copying Machine

You must start the toner replacement procedure in your Sharp AR-285 Digital Copying Machine by opening the front cover. Then, you must pull down the toner hopper lock lever and pull the toner hopper out until it stops. Now, you must unpack the new toner cartridge, tap on its top 6-7 times, and shake it at least 20 times vertically. After that, you must insert the new toner cartridge into the guides of the toner hopper by sliding it to the right. Once the toner cartridge is in the tonner hopper, you must remove the sealing tape by pulling it to the right side while holding the toner cartridge with your left hand. Then, you must tap on the top of the new toner cartridge 5-6 times to start the flow of toner into the toner hopper. When the toner cartridge is completely empty, you must remove it from the toner hopper by sliding it to the left along the hopper guides and then slide the toner hopper into the copier. Finally, you must push the toner hopper lock lever to its original position and close the front cover of your Sharp AR-285 Digital Copying Machine.

It will handle the needs of your office and then some. It offers 600 dpi resolution which results in vivid and clearer graphics.

Pros:

The Sharp AR-285 offers many outstanding features that you will love. Its scan once print many feature will save you time and make your life easier.

With this printer you get many great features. One of them is duplexing. With the Sharp AR-285 you get a duplex single-pass document feeder for copying, scanning, faxing of a two-sided originals.

The Sharp AR-285 you can handle a lot of paper. Optional trays can be added to increase its paper capacity to 3,100 sheets. That is an outstanding option for any business. It comes with two-500 sheet drawers with an automatic feeder which holds 50 sheets.

Finishing capabilities can be added to the Sharp AR-285 which include a saddle-stitch finisher with hole punching capabilities and two-tray sorting/stapling finisher options as well as an 8 bin mailbox finisher are available.

Cons:

The Sharp AR-285 takes a long time to warm up. Furthermore there are other printers on the market that are faster in the same price range. Additionally this printer tends to jam too much.
Other shortcoming is that it doesn’t come with fax capabilities. You will have to pay more if you want it upgraded for faxing.
