Canon MultiPASS C530 Review
The Canon MultiPASS C530 multifunction printer incorporates other business machines into one all-in-one set. The C530 is primarily a printer, but is also a scanner, copier, and fax machine all rolled into one compact body.
The Canon MultiPASS C530 machine weighs a light 10.5 pounds making it easy to move around the house and office to where the work needs to be done. It measures 14.4” x 12.7” x 8.1” and its compact design is perfect on desks of small offices or home offices. The C530 is powered using a 120 V 60 Hz supply and it consumes only 37.9 W during operation and 6 W on standby. The MultiPASS C530’s optimal operating temperature is between 41 degrees Fahrenheit to 90.5 degrees Fahrenheit.
Its primary function is a printer among all others. Its printer uses Canon’s bubble jet ink on demand technology that produces vibrant colors using minimal ink. The Canon MultiPASS C530 is capable of printing on mediums such as Glossy Photo Paper, Greeting Cards, High Gloss Film, High Resolution Paper, Plain Paper, Transparencies, and T-shirt Transfers; all these paper media with sizes Letter, Legal, A4, US #10, and European Envelope. All prints are rendered with resolutions of up to 720 x 360 with smoothing for black and 720 x 360 for color, this produces vibrant and detailed prints of images and crisp prints of texts. Paper is fed automatically or manually to the printer.
The Canon MultiPASS C530 has a copier feature installed as well. The C530 can copy documents at resolutions of 360 x 360 with a copy speed 3 pages per minute and can handle up to 99 copies per page in one set. C530’s copier reduces document to 70% of the original, if ever reductions are needed.
Scanning documents with the Canon MultiPASS C530 is also possible. The scanner of the C530 saves documents with an optical resolution of 300 dpi upon scanning. Scanning documents eases the archiving and saving work that needs to be done and it saves money and space as well.
The Canon MultiPASS C530 fax uses a G3 compatible Public Switched Telephone Network. The fax feature of the C530 compresses data using MH, MR, ECM-MMR, JBIG, and JPEG (for color and images) methods. Documents are transmitted at a rate of 6 seconds per page at modem speeds of 14.4 Kbps, however the connection is not always optimized and the C530’s fax modem supports slower speeds; 2400, 4800, 7200, 9600, 14400 bps. Upon receipt of a fax the Canon MultiPASS C530 prints out the document at a speed of 4 pages per minute using the BC-20 black bubble jet ink cartridge. The print outs have a resolution of 203 x 196 at fine mode and 203 x 98 at standard mode.
Other features of the C530’s fax machine include speed dialing; an automatic dial with one touch speed dial for 12 locations and a coded speed dial for 100 locations. It also has an automatic redial mechanism that redials up to 10 times in 2 to 99 minute intervals. The C530 is also capable of broadcasting to up to 11 locations.
The other features of the Canon MultiPASS C530 are limited like for instance, the copier can only reduce documents by 70%, and there are no other options of reducing to a much smaller size or even enlarging a document or an image.
The Canon MultiPASS C530 has problems with the capacity it can handle. The capacity is very limited and it not suited for large offices. There are many other multifunction machines that can handle the grind, the never ending queue of printing, scanning, copying, and faxing tasks.
