 The Canon MultiPASS C545 is a bubble jet multifunction printer and is capable of handling scanning, copying and faxing chores. The C545 delivers brilliant colors to every print. This multifunction machine fits all your office or home document needs rolled into one.

Pros:

 This 10.6 lbs machine that measures 14.1” x 12.7” x 8.1” is a compact all-in-one machine that is lightweight and fits on just about any desk at home or in the office. Printing reports, copying documents, scanning images, and faxing proposals to clients are easily done with the Canon MultiPASS C545 bubble jet multifunction printer.

The C545 uses Canon’s bubble jet technology that allows it to print realistic color images and black text with resolutions up to 720 x 360 dpi. Printing at a rate of 5 pages per minute for black and 2 pages per minute for color make hard copies of important documents readily available. The Canon MultiPASS C545 supports various media types the likes of Envelopes, High Gloss Film, Banners, Transparencies, Glossy Photo Paper, and Plain Paper. The C545 printer can handle 100 sheets via manual or automatic document feeds.

The Canon MultiPASS C545, as a multifunction machine, has a digital copier that copies documents at a rate of 3 pages per minute for both black and color prints with maximum resolutions of 360 x 360 dpi. Documents are reduced to 70% of its original size.

The C545’s scanner is an integrated sheetfed scanner that can digitize documents into 24-bit snapshots with optical resolutions of 300 x 300 dpi and interpolated resolutions that reach up to 600 x 600 dpi. The maximum document size that C545’s integrated scanner can handle is up to 8.5” x 39.3”.

The Canon MultiPASS C545 multifunction printer is also equipped with a fax feature that supports ITU-T color fax using the Public Switched Telephone Network. The fax utilizes the MH, MR, ECM-MMR, JBIG data compression system with JPEG compression support for color documents. The modem is capable of transmitting documents at a rate of 6 seconds per page at 14.4 Kbps. The C545’s fax modem supports other transmissions speeds ranging between 2400 bps to 14400 bps. Fax printing speed for this machine is at 4 pages per minute using the optional BC-20 ink cartridge; the prints have a resolution of 203 x 196 dpi for Fine Mode and 203 x 96 for Standard Mode.

The Canon MultiPASS C545 fax has a speed dialing feature for easy and speedy forwarding of documents. The speed dial feature include a one touch speed dial for 12 different locations and coded speed dialing to 100 locations. The other features if the C545’s fax capabilities are sequential broadcasts to 112 locations, automatic receiving, non-ring reception, and remote reception   by an extension.

The Canon MultiPASS C545 is powered using a 120 V 60 Hz power source and consumes 37.9W during operation. The C545 connects to a computer using a 1.0x USB 4 pin type. The software included for the C545 is Canon’s MultiPASS Desktop Manager, MultiPASS C545 printer driver, Canon Photo, TextBridge Pro, and Office Ready CC. The C545 is compatible with machines running Macintosh 8.5 or later and PC.

Cons:

 The C545’s compatible ink cartridges are small and with the printer using too much ink, the need to replace a cartridge may come earlier than usual especially when doing high volume work. This printer is not built for high volume document processing, as it is designed for small offices and homes. Allowing the Canon MultiPASS C545 to print over its capacity may affect the operational life of the machine.
