Canon multiPASS C555 Review
The Canon MultiPASS C555 is a multifunction printer that can handle all the printing, copying, scanning, and fax for your home or office. The C555 has different functions and features yet it is easy to use and has excellent printing quality. The Canon MultiPASS C555 has a compact design that saves office space as it is 4 machines in one and each function performs as expected.
The Canon MultiPASS C555 weighs only 11.2 pounds and measures 14.4” x 13.4” x 10.9”. This all-in-one machine is a space saver as it only occupies a small area and is capable of different functions. The C555 is primarily a printer and it uses the bubble jet printing technology and prints documents with speeds up to 5 pages per minute for black documents, colored ones are printed much slower at 2 pages per minute. The print quality is good with print resolution of up to 720 x 360 dpi for black and color prints. The Canon MultiPASS C555 handles paper automatically or manually and the paper sizes this machine supports ranges from Letter, Legal, A4, US #10, and European DL envelope. The MultiPASS C555 has a built-in copier function, and it copies documents with resolutions up to 360 x 360 dpi for mono and color. The copier can also reduce documents to 70%, 80%, or 90% of the original size. The MultiPASS C555 can also scan documents using a Contact Images Sensor and handles documents with maximum size of 8.5” x 39.3”. The various documents are scanned at 600 dpi, 300 dpi for optical, at 24-bits. The Canon MultiPASS C555 also has a fax function which uses Public Switched Telephone lines as its means of transmission. The fax modem can transmit data at speeds of 4800, 7200, 9600, and 14400 bits per second. The transmission speed for the C555 fax is rated at 6 seconds per page at 14.4 Kbps. It has several receive options particularly Fax only mode, Fax or Telephone mode, Manual mode, Answering machine mode, and Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection. Upon receipt of data the printer can print incoming faxes at 4 pages per minute. The C555’s fax has an automatic speed dial for 12 locations and a coded speed dial for 100 locations. Other features for the C555’s fax feature is a sequential broadcast of up to 113 locations, automatic reception and non-ring reception.
The Canon MultiPASS C555 has some issues regarding drivers and installation. The C555 drivers and included software is difficult to install. The drivers and software are also not compatible with Windows XP, and this poses a problems since most systems are running on XP. Printing speed at 5 pages per minute for black and 2 pages per minute for color is a bit slow compared to other printers. The bubble jet ink tanks are also small and when printing several pages there is a possibility that the ink will run out anytime. As for the quality of output for other features, scanning does have some issues. |
