Canon multiPASS C635 Review

Overview:

The Canon multiPASS C635 is an All-in-One machine that is able to handle printing, copying, scanning, and faxing jobs. The C635 is suited for home and office use. The good thing about this printer all-in-one machine is it is compatible with Mac systems and supports Macintosh 8.1 or later versions of the Mac OS.

Pros:

The Canon multiPASS C635 weighs 12.3 pounds, making it easier to transfer the machine from workstation to workstation. It comfortably sits atop desks because of the space it takes up, the multiPASS C635 has dimensions of 15.8” x 14.2” x 8.1”.

The main feature of the Canon multiPASS C635 is its printer feature. The C635 uses bubble jet ink technology and can print up to 6.5 pages per minute using black ink and approximately 2.5 pages per minute on color prints. The C635 prints with resolutions up to 720 x 360 dpi for black and also a 720 x 360 dpi resolution for color. Paper sizes that this printer can handle are legal, letter, A4, US #10, and European DL envelope. The printer can also print on a wide variety of paper types such as plain paper, glossy photo paper, high gloss film resolution paper, transparencies and even T-shirt transfers. The Canon multiPASS C635 uses both automatic and manual paper feeds.

The C635 also has a copier feature and can copy documents speeds of up to 99 copies per page; the first copy takes 45 seconds while multiple copies are outputted up to 3 pages per minute with resolutions of 360 x 360 dpi. As a copier the multiPASS C635 can zoom in and out of the document from 70% to 90%.

The Canon MultiPASS C635 is also a built-in optical scanner that scans documents with resolutions up to 600 dpi. The scanner feature can scan documents with varying sizes from letter size to A4 and legal.

As a multifunction machine the C635 also has a fax feature that uses a modem with speeds from 2,400 bps up to 14400 bps. The C635 fax uses MH, MR, ECM-MMR data compression to transmit data with transmission speeds of approximately 6 seconds per page at 14.4 Kbps. The Canon MultiPASS fax resolution in fine mode is 203 x 196 dpi and a much lower resolutions in standard mode at only 203 x 98 dpi. The C635 fax is equipped with a speed dial, a one touch speed dial for 6 locations and coded speed dialing for 50 locations.

Other features of the C635’s fax is a sequential broadcast of up to 57 locations, automatic receiving, a non ring receptions that automatically receives faxes and print out documents.

The Canon MultiPASS C635 runs on 120 V AC and uses approximately 30 W during operation and 8 W while on standby. The C635 software bundle is compatible on a Mac that runs Macintosh 8.1 or later, it is also compatible on PC systems. The software included for the optimum operation of the Canon MultiPASS C635 is the MultiPASS Desktop Manager. It contains drivers and setup utilities for the printer, fax, and scanning. 

Cons:

As an all-in-one machine the Canon multiPASS C635 did not really concentrate on the printer feature of this piece of equipment. A print speed of 6.5 pages per minute is a very slow output rate compared with other all-in-one printers in the market.

The Canon multiPASS C635 does not support direct faxing from an application. The user in turns adjusts by doing additional work rather than doing it automatically.
