You can check the status of the installed ink cartridges from the control panel of your HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless InkJet Printer. Please note that you can obtain more detailed information about the status of the inkjet printer and the installed components by printing a self-test report. The self-test report can be selected from the [Print Report] section of the device control panel. You should replace an installed ink cartridge(s) in the following circumstances:

Partial/incomplete printouts appear – This issue could be caused by insufficient ink level(s). You should check the ink levels, and replace all nearly empty ink cartridges.

Bleeding colors – One or more installed ink cartridges are exhausted or defective. You should print a quality diagnostic page to determine which ink cartridges need to be replaced.

[Replace Cartridge(s) Soon] is displayed – The HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless InkJet Printer has detected a low ink level(s). You should check the ink levels from the control panel, and replace all nearly empty ink cartridges to avoid possible printing delays.

[Cartridge Problem] – The indicated ink cartridge is either defective/damaged or incorrectly installed. You must make sure that the specified ink cartridge is inserted firmly into position, and then test the printer. Please replace the faulty ink cartridge if the problem persists.

[Incompatible Cartridge(s)] – The indicated ink cartridges are not intended for use in your HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless InkJet Printer. Please replace the incompatible cartridges.

You must open the ink cartridge cover, and then pull the exhausted ink cartridge straight towards you to remove it from the HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless InkJet Printer. After that, you must unpack the new ink cartridge, and then align it with the corresponding color-coded slot. Finally, you must insert the new ink cartridge firmly into the slot, and then close the ink cartridge cover.
