Product Manuals
Checking and Replacing Ink Cartridges in a Kodak ESP 6150 InkJet Printer
To manually check the current ink levels on the Kodak ESP 6150 InkJet, use the following procedure.

1) Press HOME
2) Press the DOWN ARROW to highlight MAINTENANCE and press OK
3) Highlight CHECK INK LEVELS and press OK

The LCD display screen will show the approximate ink levels that the cartridges are at. Ink levels can also be checked in the Home Center Software control panel. When ink has completely run out, the printer itself will display a REPLACE INK message and will indicate if it is the color or black cartridge that needs replacement.

Begin with the printer ON and lift the access door on top of the printer. The cartridge will then automatically move itself to an accessible position. (This is why the printer must be left on during the procedure).

Inside the print head, the black and color cartridges will be seen and are easily distinguishable from one another. Select the proper cartridge for replacement, then press in on the release tab on the cartridge. It can then be lifted out of the print head.

After this is done, open the bag for the new ink cartridge. Keep in mind that the bag must be opened only immediately before installation, and the cartridge should be installed right away once opened. Before installation, the protective cap on the bottom of the cartridge must be pulled off. It can then be inserted down into its position in the print head and pressed down into a locked position. When you close the access door to the printer, the print head will reposition itself.
Replacing the Printhead in a Kodak ESP 6150 InkJet Printer
Please note that replacement of the print head is not part of regular maintenance for the Kodak ESP 6150 InkJet. The procedure should only be done as necessary if a problem arises or a user receives a new print head from Kodak.

With the printer turned on, open the access cover by lifting it up. The print head will reposition itself to allow the ink cartridges to be removed. Lift both cartridges out of the print head by pressing their release tabs. Store the cartridges in as dark a place as possible while the print head is being installed.

The print head has a button in the center of it that must be pressed to unlock it from the printer. After the release button is pressed, the print head can be lifted straight up out of the machine.

A new print head will come in a bag that must be cut open and the print head removed. Never make contact with the gold electrodes on the print head. There are two plastic protective shields that now must be removed before the print head can be installed. Once ready, the unit can be dropped down into the same position as the old one. Give it a VERY FIRM press against the target label and it will loudly snap into place.

Reinstall the black ink cartridge first, making sure that it snaps properly into place. Next, install the color one and close the access cover to the printer. The new print head must now be calibrated. Instructions for this procedure will appear on the LCD screen.

Kodak ESP 6150 InkJet Review

Overview:

With unique features such as the ability to scan multiple pictures simultaneously, the Kodak ESP 6150 InkJet stands out from the crowd as one of the most well equipped personal MFCs out there. With a full color preview screen and built in duplexing, this compact device is truly fully loaded and ready to serve any individual or small office.

Pros:

Thanks to a feature found almost exclusively in certain Kodak products, the ESP 6150 InkJet is capable of scanning two pictures at the same time, as long as they both fit onto the scan glass. Scan resolution can be selected all the way up to 1200 x 1200 dots per inch optically, so near photo quality scans can be done as well and separated by the included software. If higher quality scanning is required, users can always turn to the 9600 dot per inch interpolated scan option for extremely high resolutions.

A built in 2.4 inch color display screen makes navigating through menus easy and fun, while a very simple ink cartridge setup makes replacing consumables fast and efficient. On top of all the functionality packed into this device, it is also highly affordable, giving a user access to color print, copy, scan, and fax abilities for less than $200.

Not only is the Kodak ESP 6150 InkJet equipped to handle Ethernet connectivity, it is also Wi-Fi ready and is network enables for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, allowing users to print directly from these devices with a bare minimum setup.

Though the Kodak ESP 6150 InkJet is not a 4800 x 1200 dot per inch true photo quality printer, it can print to sized of up to 8.5 x 11 borderless. When using borderless printers, the device eliminates the hand cropping process by way of scissors by printing right up to the edge of the paper. This is a must when printing photographs.

Cons:

When there is a major discrepancy between what a printer’s factory rated print speed is advertised at and what it can actually perform, it is important to hold manufacturers accountable. On paper, the Kodak ESP 6150 InkJet is without at doubt a nearly flawlessly balanced device, and yet private tests of its print speed have ranked it at less than half the performance level that Kodak claims. This differential is simply unacceptable, and buyers should, as always, beware of the advertised rate of print, as this device may not live up to its own hype outside of very controlled conditions.

Kodak has rated this machine at up to 32 pages per minute for black and white printing, yet only 5 pages per minute for monochrome copying. Additionally, it is rated at 30 pages per minute for color printing and an incredibly slow 3 pages per minute when copying in color. Lastly, its first copy out time of 26 seconds cannot be disputed, as this slow speed doesn’t even look good on paper, and we can only imagine how bad it actually is if this speed is a gross exaggeration.
