Epson LX-300+ Dot Matrix Printer Review

Overview:

The Epson LX-300+ Dot Matrix Printer is, by now, a time tested device that comes in handy for those who require impact printing for multi layered receipts, work orders, shipping manifests, and other industrial materials.

Pros:

For those wondering why anyone would want an ancient technology printer such as the Epson LX-300+ Dot Matrix Printer, there are two solid reasons. The first is that, by using old impact technology such as dot matrix or line matrix, these printers can produce multilayered duplicates immediately. Additionally, dot matrix printers are extremely durable, making them perfect for dusty or cold work environments such as auto shops, shipping bays, or other industrial zones.

The Epson LX-300+ Dot Matrix Printer is relatively inexpensive for a new dot matrix device, and prints at speeds that are at least up to par with other unit’s in this price range. The device prints at a speed of about 337 characters per second, making it possible to fairly quickly print whatever receipts or forms a small business may require. With 9 pin technology, each character will also come out looking clear and legible.

This printer is capable of printing to multi sheet paper up to five pages deep. This places it in the “acceptable” range, as there are some devices on the market that can print six and even seven sheets deep, but also some that top out at a mere two or three. The Epson LX-300+ Dot Matrix Printer falls right in the middle, and should prove sufficient for most multi page printing needs.

The Epson LX-300+ Dot Matrix Printer stands a mere 6.26 inches tall and has a reasonable footprint of 14.42 inches by 10.84 inches (W x D) and its weight is a reasonable 9.7 pounds. With a comprehensive two year warranty, buyers of the device are almost certain to get their money’s worth.

Cons:

The downsides to dot matrix printing in general include incredibly slow print speed when compared to other print mediums and a high cost per page. The Epson LX-300+ Dot Matrix Printer is up to speed among its peers but should never be considered for daily office use such as regular document printing. The costs would me much too high and the production speed impractically slow, not to mention that this printer, along with all other dot matrix printers, is obnoxiously loud. Users have also reported that this unit in particular is quite prone to paper jams; a problem very common with this type of hardware.
