Canon PIXMA iP5000 Review
The powerhouse Canon PIXMA iP5000 houses next-generation technology that will provide superior prints. It utilizes a 5-color ink system and Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) system to produce images with precision. Its detail in true-life photo-imagery is supported by its ContrastPLUS 5-color inks. This printer is speedy, robust and offers quality output for the hobbyists, home, office, or graphic designer. The printer is ideal for students or home-user who needs a compact, isolated machine for daily tasks.
The first and foremost notable quality of the printer is its ability to operate without the use of a home computer. It connects to digital cameras, DV camcorders, and mobile phones via the PictBridge. The exception is, the device connected to the printer is PictBridge capable and enabled. End-users can print their photos or still-pictures from the menu located on their mobile phone, DV camcorders, and digital cameras. Essentially, the printer is independent of computers but will work with laptops and desktops. The solid resolution of 600 x 600 dots per inch in Black and 9600 x 2400 dots per inch will produce real-life quality photos and decent black text documents. It is quite fast for the average user. It prints 25 pages per minute in Black and 17 pages per minute in Color; 2.4 seconds per page in black and 3.5 seconds per page in color. Along with the FINE technology, there are 320 Black nozzles, 512 x 2 Cyan/Magenta nozzles, 246 x 2 Yellow/Black nozzles, which, bring the total nozzles to 1,856. The printer works with most modern computers like Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000, and Windows 98. Mac users of the OS 9.x, v10.2.1-10.3.x can find peace of mind in the printer's compatibility. The standard network interface is made up of a Direct Print port and USB port. The Direct Print Port is used for external devices like cameras, camcorders, and mobile phones. The USB port is used for direct host computer connections. The printer's buffer ram is 34 Kilo Bytes. Its buffer ram is useful because it stores images and data temporarily, while, the connected hardware device is uninterrupted in its data flow. If you want to print quantity of papers while working on projects on your computer, the buffer will ease the RAM payload on the host computer. Therefore, you are spooling your print jobs. At the very least, the buffer helps offset the computer lag. The noise-levels of the printer are quite low at 35 decibels. Considering that the predecessors were louder than the PIXMA iP5000, at roughly 45 decibels. This one operates at noise-levels as quiet as a whisper, so you can think and do your work unhindered without distractions. The printer is 16.5 inches in width, 6.7 inches in height, 11.3 inches in depth, and 14.9 pounds. It will fit atop any credenza or stand without issues. Acceptable media-sizes are 5 x 7 inches, 4 x 6 inches, Legal, Letter, Wallet-sized, Credit Card (2.13 x 3.39), and U.S. #10 Envelopes. There is a myriad of media-types one can utilize with the machine: Bubble Jet Transparencies, Photo Paper Pro, Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss, Photo Paper Plus Double-Sided, Photo Paper Plus Glossy, Matte Photo, High-Resolution Paper, Glossy Photo Paper. All of these paper-types are specialized and can be ordered from Canon.
The printer does not house any incorporated networking features. Features like fax, scan, and copy do not exist on the machine. Although, the majority of users hold this printer in high-regard, there are some cons to the printer that can be an isolated incident. A review stated, when printing glossy photos from the bottom tray, the rollers removed the gloss from the photo and some scratching was evident. It was later resolved by Canon. The printer is most efficient with Canon ink cartridges and paper products, thus limiting its range in products. Memory Card slots are not incorporated in the machine. |
