Overview:

Canon has worked really hard to bring in the Canon PIXMA iP4700 series to the general public.  The PIXMA iP4700 is a single-function printer designed with photographers, artists, and graphic-mediums in mind.  It possesses the high-quality ink capabilities to deliver superior photos to your hand.  Scrapbooking is made simple and possible with the ChromaLife100+ that ensure the photos have lasting durability through the generations to come.  This printer is versatile and robust to provide photos conveniently.

Pros:

Canon appears to revise and retouch each model in the series of iP4000s.  The Canon PIXMA iP4700, in contrast to its predecessors, retain the features of its older models.  It is a photo printer that uses 5 individual ink tanks to ensure the quality of borderless prints and auto-duplex prints.  There is a two-way feeder that lets the end-user store different document mediums.  It prints with the Full-lithography inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE).  There is a total of 320 nozzles of for Black and 4,096 nozzles for Color, bringing the total number of nozzles to 4,416.  The maximum resolution for Color documents is 9600 x 2400 dots per inch and 600 x 600 dots per inch for Black.

With 4,416 dedicated nozzles, the printer will dish-out Black documents at 9.2 images per minute and Color-mediums at 8.1 images per minute.  For borderless photo printing, it takes roughly 20 seconds to  print.  The printer will utilize the Auto Photo Fix 2 to adjust the pictures to an optimized state.  Common issues associated in photos are red-eye and skin-tone.  Auto Photo Fix can, compared to its predecessor, categorize your images based on the types; Scenery, Snapshot with Scenery/Night Scenery, Night Scenery, and Portrait.  If there are under-exposed areas in a photo, before printing, it will automatically fix it by brightening and adding correct color contrast.  The FINE technology will expel ink-droplets as small as 1-5 picoliters.  This is a photographers godsend in hands free graphic editing.  Cameras and camcorders that are PictBridge enabled can print directly from the printer without a computer.  If you are interested in a hands-free way of optimizing photos, this is the tool for you. 

Let's give appreciation to Canon's commitment to bringing you a standard limited one-year warranty.  The Canon CarePak is an extended plan that provides service to the printer for up to 3 years from  the date of purchase.  The Canon CarePak is $50.  The printer is compact at 17.0 inches width, 11.7 inches in depth, 6.0 inches in height, and 12.4 pounds.  The power consumption of the printer has earned the Energy Star qualified label at 17-Watts on the operational mode, and 0.9-Watts on standby.  The automatic-duplex feature enables end-users to conserve paper with 2-sided printing.  The network interface is made up of USB 2.0 High-Speed port and PictBridge.  Modern operating systems like Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 2000 work with the printer.  Mac OS users can expect the printer to work on their versions 10.3.9-10.5.x.  Acceptable medias are Letter, Legal, 8 x10 inches, 5 x 7 inches, 4 x 6 inches, and U.S. #10 Envelopes.

Cons:

The Canon PIXMA iP4700 does not house modem ports.  Tech savvy individuals can network the printer with additional add-ons and modifications, but costs more money and is not ideal.  Office environments commonly require crucial features like copy, fax, and scan.  It does not copy, fax, or scan.  There are no memory card slots.
