Canon FaxPhone B740 Review

Overview:

 The Canon FaxPhone B740 is a high performance bubble jet faxing and copying machine that fits on any desktop. The B740 has the capability to make high quality color faxes and copies of documents. This machine makes faxing and copying convenient by not having to move to transport and copy documents.

Pros:

 The Canon FaxPhone B740 only weighs 11.2 lbs and sits comfortably on desktop taking up space that only measures 14.4” x 10.9” x 18.9”

The FaxPhone B740 uses the bubble jet print technology to print copied and faxed documents. The high performance bubble jet is capable of printing of resolutions up to 200 x 200 dpi and is able to print up to 99 copies.

As the Canon FaxPhone B740 is primarily a fax machine it is capable of transmitting black and white documents at a speed of 6 seconds per page; color documents take about 2 minutes per page to be successfully transmitted. Transmitting at speeds of 14,400 bps it is faster than most machines with transmission speeds of 9,600 bps.

The Canon FaxPhone B740 has an internal memory that is capable of storing up to 42 pages and allows the machine to save the transmission when it runs out of paper.

The B740 scans a page at rate of 5.8 seconds per page with a resolution of 203 x 98 dpi in black and white, 203 x 196 dpi in fine mode, 200 x 200 dpi in color standard mode and 200 x 200 dpi in color fine mode.  The machine is equipped with an ADF or an Automatic Document Feeder that can handle up to 20 pages of paper. The FaxPhone B740 can handle A4, Legal and Letter paper sizes.

The Canon FaxPhone B740 is capable of storing up to 112 fax numbers for easy transmission. With just one touch of a button the documents are being faxed out to the intended recipient. Transmitting at speed from 2400 to 14400 bps, the B740 can broadcast copies up to 113 locations.

The machine runs on 120 V AC at 60 Hz and consumes 43 W of power during operation and 6.7 W during standby and the B470 is also Energy Star Compliant.

Cons:

 This machine uses the bubble jet printing technology and color cartridges come in a single cartridge for all 3 colors. This creates problems as the cartridge life is significantly shorter than others with separate cartridges for each color. Sometimes when this happens unexpectedly it causes problems for the users.

Other than cartridge life problems, the Canon FaxPhone does not have significant disadvantages.
