In a market flooded with personal multifunctional units that seem to do it all, it can be difficult to choose which all in one unit is the correct choice for your business or home. Epson is a brand that has made a reputation for themselves as producers of impressive quality, yet versatile multifunctional units, and their Epson Stylus NX305 Inkjet Multifunction Printer is a perfect example.

Pros:

With a max print resolution of 5760 x 1440 dots per inch for both black and white and color printing, the Epson Stylus NX305 Inkjet Multifunction Printer is certainly qualified as a capable photo printer. On top of this, it is also a fully functional document printer, fax machine, copier, and scanner, making it a great choice for a small work setup or household that requires a lot of functionality is a small package.

The device’s footprint is a fairly sizable 18 x 21 inches, placing it slightly on the larger size of the scale, but part of its size can be attributed to the units built in automatic document feeder and convenient paper path. As a fax machine the unit functions as well as any competitor. Faxing is made possible by a built in Super G 3 fax modem that can transmit and receive faxes at a rate of up to 33.6 Kbps meaning roughly 2 or 3 seconds per page.

Cons:

Though this Epson device uses an odd system of measuring print speed, making it difficult to compare to other units in its category, it turns out the unit is genuinely very slow overall. The device boasts a black and white speed of up to 3.6 images per minute (IPM) and a color print speed of 1.8 images per minute. While these speeds are perfectly up to par when dealing with super high quality photographic printing (which the device is more than capable of), the actual document print speed is left unclear.

The unit’s display is also a little disappointing by today’s standards. While Canon and HP are producing units that offer full color LCD displays and memory card slots for stand alone photo printing, the Epson Stylus NX305 Inkjet Multifunction Printer offers only a 2 line LCD display for making various selections and changing copy settings.
