X644E OEM TONER CARTRIDGE - HIGH YIELD

The lifespan of the toner cartridge installed in your Lexmark X644e Printer depends on its type and the average percentage of page coverage. Based on these factors, the installed toner cartridge will yield:

 

·       10,000 prints at 5% page coverage – Standard toner cartridge

·       21,000 prints at 5% page coverage – High yield toner cartridge

·       32,000 prints at 5% page coverage – Extra high yield toner cartridge

 

You can obtain useful information about the installed toner cartridge by printing a menu settings page. The installed toner cartridge should be replaced when/if any of the listed messages and print quality problems appears.

 

·       [Toner Low] – Your Lexmark X644e Printer is low on toner. You should install a new toner cartridge to avoid print quality problems.

 

·       [30.yy Invalid refill, change cartridge], [31 Replace defective print cartridge], or [32.yy Replace unsupported print cartridge] – The installed toner cartridge is defective, invalid, or incompatible. Please install a new, compatible toner cartridge to resume printing/copying.

 

·       [Close door or insert print cartridge.] – The Lexmark X644e Printer does not detect an installed toner cartridge. You should reinstall the toner cartridge, and then close all printer covers. Please install a new toner cartridge if the problem persists.

 

·       Print/image density is insufficient

 

·       Background shading appears

 

·       Entire page is white

 

·       Streaks

 

·       Residual images

To install a new toner cartridge in your Lexmark X644e Printer, you must lower the multipurpose feeder, and then open the top front cover. Next, you must unlock the used toner cartridge by pulling it slightly up, and then remove it from the printer. After that, you must remove the packing material from the new toner cartridge, and then shake the cartridge 8-10 times in all directions to loosen the toner. Now, you must align the new toner cartridge with the guides inside the machine, and then insert the new component into place. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must close the top front cover, and then return the multipurpose feeder to its original position. Finally, you must print five sheets of paper, wait five seconds, and then print five more sheets.

Initially, you must switch the Lexmark X644e Printer off, and then unplug the power cord. Next, you must loosen the thumbscrews of the two cables located at the back of the ADF assembly, and then unplug the cables. After that, you must remove the ADF attach screws, and then remove the ADF assembly by lifting it up. Now, you must open the top cover of the ADF, and then remove the two inner mounting screws. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must release the latch located on the right side under the scanner, and then remove the ADF top cover by releasing the left latch. Once the ADF top cover is removed, you must open the document cover, and then remove the flatbed white cushion. Next, you must turn the ADF assembly upside down, and open the lower exit guide. After that, you must remove the six screws securing the ADF CCD module assembly, remove the ADF jam tray sensor, and then unplug ADF CCD to scan control cable. Now, you must remove the ADF CCD module assembly from the Lexmark X644e Printer, and then unpack the replacement component. Finally, you must install the new ADF CCD module assembly by executing the current procedure in reverse order, and then perform scanner registration by selecting [Diagnostics] – [Registration] – [Auto Detect].

You should replace the high voltage power supply if:

 

·       Nothing is printed – You should replace the toner cartridge, and the high voltage contact located on the right side frame. You will have to replace the high voltage power supply if the Lexmark X644e Printer continues to print blank pages.

 

·       Black bands on outer edges of the page – You should try to improve print quality by replacing the charge roll assembly, the charge roll link-arm, and the charge roll counterbalance springs. Please replace the high voltage power supply if print quality does not improve.

 

·       Insufficient print/image density – You should select a higher print darkness setting, and then test the Lexmark X644e Printer. If the image density is still insufficient, you should replace the transfer roller. Please replace the high voltage power supply if print quality does not improve.

 

·       Toner on backside of the page – You should replace the fuser assembly unit, and then test the printer. Please replace the high voltage power supply if print quality does not improve.

 

·       The error code [917] is displayed – You should replace the cable harness of the high voltage power supply, and then check the printer status. Please replace the high voltage power supply if the same error code is displayed.

Please note that you have to remove all of the listed (below) components before replacing the high voltage power supply. Please make sure that the power cord of your Lexmark X644e Printer is unplugged before proceeding with the replacement procedure.

All removal and replacement procedures are included in the correct order of execution.

 

Left side cover

 

You must open the upper and lower front cover of your Lexmark X644e Printer, and then open the left side cover by pressing the two latch buttons. After that, you must release the top hinge of the left side cover from the latch, and then lift the cover to release the bottom hinge, and resp. to remove the cover.

 

Upper paper deflector assembly

 

You must lift the ESD cover slightly, and then release the small tab of the upper paper deflector assembly. After that, you must release the MPF flag, and then slide the upper paper deflector assembly to the right. Finally, you must lift the upper paper deflector out of the Lexmark X644e Printer.

 

MPF lower paper deflector

 

You must remove the lower cover of the MPF, and then remove the four mounting screws of the MPF lower paper deflector. Next, you must pull the MPF lower paper deflector out of the printer.

 

Inner paper deflector assembly

 

Initially, you must remove the paper tray from the main unit, and then place the printer on its side. After that, you must release the inner paper deflector from the left and right mounting posts. Now, you must release the upper latches of the inner paper deflector from the main frame, and then remove the assembly.

 

ADF assembly

 

You must loosen the thumbscrews of the two cables located at the back of the ADF assembly, and then disconnect the cables. Next, you must remove the attach screws of the ADF assembly, and then remove the ADF assembly by lifting it up, but please make sure the you clear the two rear screws.

 

Flatbed scan assembly

 

Once the ADF assembly is removed, you must remove the five mounting screws from the SCC and HDD shield, and then loosen the screws of the outer shield. After that, you must slide the outer shield to the left, and then remove the shields of the scanner control card and the hard drive. Now, you must disconnect the two cables from the control card, and then remove the two screws from the left side of the flatbed scan assembly. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must detach the ground bracket from the SCC/HDD shield by removing the screw, and then remove the right side cover from the printer. Once the right side cover is removed, you must remove the two screws from the right side of the flatbed scan assembly, and then unhook the flatbed scan assembly from the main frame by pushing it forward. Finally, you must lift the flatbed scan assembly from the base of your Lexmark X644e Printer.

 

Upper sub cover

 

You must remove the screw that fixes the upper sub cover into place, and then release the right side of the upper sub cover from the main frame. After that, you must pull the upper sub cover to the right to remove it.

 

Right cover

 

Once the upper sub cover is removed, you must remove the toner cartridge from the Lexmark X644e Printer, and then remove the right mounting screw of the front cover. Next, you must remove the redrive door, and then remove the right mounting screw of the rear cover. After that, you must remove the two mounting screws from the redrive assembly, and then remove the assembly by releasing the two latches. Now, you must release the front side of the right cover by pressing the latch, and then release the three bottom retainers by pulling the right cover up.

 

High Voltage Power Supply

 

In the first step of the replacement procedure, you must disconnect the cable of the high voltage power supply at the connector, and then disconnect the cable of the transfer roll from the HVPS board. After that, you must remove the two mounting screws from the high voltage power supply, and then release the mounting tab by sliding the high voltage power supply to the left. Now, you must remove the high voltage power supply from the Lexmark X644e Printer, and then unpack the replacement component. Finally, you must install the new high voltage power supply by executing the current procedure in reverse order.

The system board assembly should be replaced if any of the listed error codes and print quality problems appears.

 

·       [901.xx] – The flash memory of the system board assembly is defective. Please replace the system board assembly.

 

·       [902.xx], [903.xx], [904.xx], [905.xx], or [906.xx] – The Lexmark X644e Printer has detected an unrecoverable system software error. Please replace the system board assembly.

 

·       [939.00] – You should POR (Power-On Reset) the Lexmark X644e Printer several times. Please replace the system board assembly if the same error code is displayed after POR.

 

·       [947.00] – A system board communication failure has been detected. Please replace the system board assembly.

 

·        [948.00], [949.00], or [951.00] – A general system board error. Please replace the system board assembly.

 

·       [955.00] – A CRC or ECC code failure. Please replace the system board assembly.

 

·       [956.00] or [957.00] – The processor of the system board assembly is defective. Please replace the system board assembly.

 

·       [958.00] – This error code indicates that more than 100 EC bit corrections has been made. The installed system board assembly must be replaced.

 

·       The main fan does not function – You should replace the main fan, and then test the printer. Please replace the system board assembly if the problem persists.

 

·       The cartridge fan does not function – You should replace the cartridge fan, and then test the printer. Please replace the system board assembly if the problem persists.

 

·       Solid black printouts – You should check the high voltage contacts on the right side frame and the charge roll bushing for wear or damages, and replace them if necessary. Please replace the system board assembly if print quality does not improve.

 

·       Blank printouts – You should replace the toner cartridge, and then test the Lexmark X644e Printer. Please install a new system board assembly if the problem persists.

 

·       Black bands on outer edges of the page – You should replace the charge roll assembly. Please replace the system board assembly if print quality does not improve.

In the first step of the replacement procedure, you must make sure that the Lexmark X644e Printer is switched off and that the power cord is unplugged, and then open the upper and lower front covers. Next, you must open the left door by pressing the two latch buttons, and then release the top hinge of the left door. After that, you must remove the left door by releasing its bottom from the pin, and then loosen the mounting screws of the outer shield. Now, you must remove the outer shield by sliding it up, and then remove all cables from the system board assembly. Please be aware that the system board assembly is an ESD-sensitive component. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove all features and options from the interconnect card, and then remove the mounting screws of the USB port and the system board assembly. Once you have removed the mounting screws, you must remove the system board assembly together with the inner shield from the Lexmark X644e Printer, and then unpack the replacement component. Finally, you must install the new system board assembly by executing the current procedure in reverse order, and then reset the Configuration ID from the [Diagnostics] menu.

You should replace the installed transfer roller if any of the listed print quality problems appears.

 

·       Blurred or fuzzy printouts – This print quality problem is usually caused by a problem in the installed transfer roller. Thus, you should check the installed transfer roller for binds and contamination, and replace it if necessary.

 

·       Background print quality problems – You should try to improve print quality by cleaning the ends of the transfer roller shaft. Please replace the installed transfer roller if print quality remains unsatisfactory.

 

·       Faint print – You should try to solve the problem by disabling the Toner Saver feature and by increasing the print darkness settings. Please replace the installed transfer roller if print quality does not improve.

 

·       Lines spaced 2.009 inches apart appear – The sensitive surface of the installed transfer roller has been damaged. Please replace the installed transfer roller with a new one.

Initially, you must switch the Lexmark X644e Printer off, and unplug the power cord. After that, you must open the upper front cover, and then remove the toner cartridge from the printer. Now, you must release the left end of the exhausted transfer roller from the left pivot arm, and then remove the exhausted component by sliding it to the left. In the next of the replacement procedure, you must remove the packing material from the new transfer roller, and then wrap a sheet of plain white paper around the new component to prevent contamination and damage. After that, you must insert the right end of the new transfer roller into the right pivot arm, and then lower the left end of the new component into the left pivot arm. Finally, you must reinstall the toner cartridge, and then close the upper front cover of the Lexmark X644e Printer.
