Lexmark X736DE Multifunction Printer Review

Overview:

The Lexmark X730 series includes four model variations on a fairly impressive set of hardware and includes the Lexmark X736DE Multifunction Printer which consists of a fairly ideal set of hardware specifications and refrains from going over the top with unnecessary features yet has the necessary boost in speed over the series’ slower base model.

Pros:

Though Lexmak’s line of corresponding monochrome laser printers is capable of printing at speeds in excess of 50 pages per minute, the Lexmark X736DE Multifunction Printer’s 35 page per minute color print speed is equally as impressive. Black and white print speeds also top out at 35 pages per minute which is a 5 ppm boost over the X734de’s 30 ppm. This boost in speed can be partially accredited to the unit’s 900 MHz processor which far exceeds the strength of the lower end model’s 600 MHz chip.

The device’s time to first page of less than ten seconds also ensures that even small print tasks and single page projects will not be a nuisance or get in the way of high volume prints, and the unit’s copy speeds are equally as impressive. The unit comes complete with a standard memory of 512 MBs which is further expandable up to 1536 MBs via a 1 GB chip. A higher end take on the model, the Lexmark X738DE Multifunction Printer, also includes a built in hard drive for other types of memory storage such as frequently used forms that can be printed directly from the machine.

Other stand alone functions are accessible by way of the Lexmark X736DE Multifunction Printer’s highly effective full color, backlit LCD screen. The screen is touch sensitive and customizable down to the menu design and color. Individual users can even select and save their own settings and preferences on flash drives that, when plugged into one of the unit’s convenient memory slots, will instantly access that user’s custom menu.

A fax modem is included with the device and operates at a speed of 33.6 Kbps, while copy and scan functions are also fully operational. Copying can be done using dedicated one touch controls or with detailed fine tuning when using the touch screen for navigation.

Cons:

While the Lexmark X736DE Multifunction Printer’s maximum print quality is an impressive 1200 x 1200 dots per inch (really 600 x 2400 dots per inch), this leaves the unit just shy of photo color quality. Though, for most business applications 1200 dpi should serve just fine, and optimized mode for photo printing could have been a major plus for this unit, especially considering its price.
