PIXMA MP160 HIGH YIELD COLOR INK CARTRIDGE

Your Canon PIXMA MP160 is equipped with a precise built-in system, which constantly monitoring the status of the installed ink cartridges. Once the system detects an ink cartridge/cartridges related abnormality, it will display an appropriate warning or error message on the control LCD of your printer, in order to notify/warn you about the exact detected issue/problem. All messages used by the sophisticated built-in system for indication of a nearly exhausted/emptied or exhausted/emptied ink cartridge/cartridges are listed and described below.

''BLACK INK LOW'' or/and a constantly lit Black cartridge's LED – This message indicates that the installed Black ink cartridge is nearly exhausted/near the end of its useful life. You should install a new Black ink cartridge soon after the initial appearance of this warning message, in order to be avoided a non-operational printer's mode caused by a completely exhausted ink cartridge (No Ink).

''COLOR INK LOW'' or/and a constantly lit Color cartridge's LED – The installed Color ink cartridge is nearly empty, and needs to be replaced very soon.

''CHECK INK'' or/and ''[E]+[4]'' displayed on the control LCD – This is an error message, which is indicating a completely exhausted ink cartridge/cartridges. You must install new ink cartridges of the indicated colors, in order to be restored the normal/full printer's functionality.

Please note that you should also replace the installed ink cartridges, if there are constantly reappearing print quality issues, such as missing characters or/and white streaks.

Initially, you must open the scanning unit while the printer is turned on, and then pull the scanning unit's support/lever down. After that, you must unlock the exhausted ink cartridge by pushing it gently down, but please avoid touching the transparent film, the film cable, the ink absorber, or any other inner metal printer's parts/components. Then, you must take the exhausted ink cartridge out of the main unit by pulling it carefully towards you. Now, you must unpack the new ink cartridge and remove its protective tape, but avoid touching the gold terminals and the nozzles of the new printer's component, and then insert the new ink cartridge into the corresponding slot at angle of 45degrees. Once the new cartridge is inserted into the appropriate slot, you must push the cartridge up until it clicks securely into place. Finally, you must return the scanning unit's lever back to its original position, and then close the scanning unit. Please note that you will have to execute the short procedure included below, if there are any print quality issues after the successful installation of the new ink cartridge.

Aligning The New Ink Cartridge

1. Locate the [Menu] button, and then press it until the following message ''P'' appears on the control LCD.
2. Press the [Black] or [Color] button, in order to be printed the head alignment sheet.
3. Enter check-marks in the patterns of the head alignment sheet, but only where the image is most solid.
4. Put the head alignment sheet on the Platen Glass and align its upper left corner with the alignment mark.
5. Press and hold the [Maintenance] button until the following message ''U'' is displayed.
6. Press [Black] or [Color], in order to be executed the automatic new ink cartridge alignment procedure.
