Toshiba E-Studio 45 - Replacing a Toner Cartridge and Waste Toner Container

Note: On the Toshiba E-Studio 45, a new waste toner container must be installed with EVERY new toner cartridge.

Toshiba’s symbol for an empty toner cartridge (an arrow pointing to six small dots) is located on the side of the Toshiba E-Studio 45 printer and will flash once toner yield in the machine has run completely out. The message screen will also display and ADD TONER readout. At this point, the unit will not be able to continue operation until a fresh toner cartridge is added.

The front cover to the printer must be pulled from both top corners to be opened. This will allow access to the consumables area. The toner cartridge is located behind the toner bag: an L shaped object found inside the machine. To remove the toner bag, first push it to the left to unlock it, then pull gently out of the machine. Never force the toner bag when removing it and, when removed, place the lid on the toner bag and return it to a service technician.

Now that access is available to the toner cartridge, press on the claw holding the cartridge and open it. Next, rotate the cartridge until the arrow on it is on TOP of the unit. It can now safely be pulled out of the machine.

When installing a new toner cartridge, the cartridge itself must first be shaken very well in all directions and rotations to distribute the internal toner. A seal is located on one end of the toner cartridge that can be pulled free from the unit.

Align the new cartridge with its arrow on top and insert it into the machine completely. Lock it into place by closing the cartridge holder. A new toner bag must also be installed. Open the new waste toner container and slide in into the machine in the REVERSE order as when it was pulled out, also being careful not to force it. It is now safe to close the cover and resume operation of the machine.

Toshiba E-Studio 45 - Executing a Basic Copy Procedure

Copies can be made using the Toshiba E-Studio 45 by way of its document glass or automatic document feeder. The first step in creating one or multiple copies is to load the copy material into either one of these apparatuses. Selecting a copy mode is next in the process. This can be done by using the device’s touch panel and dedicated control keys.

NOTE: To simply make a single copy with the current settings, press the START key and a copy will be made.

If adjustments in the size, editing, or quantities of copies must be made, begin by selecting the number of ORIGINALS to be copied. If multiples of originals are loaded into the ADF, then the CONTINUOUS FEED mode must be turned on. When using the document glass, only one page can be loaded at a time.

To make multiple sets out OUTGOING copies, simply type the desired number into the dedicated key pad. If changes to this quantity need to be made, press the C/CLEAR/STOP key.

Always ensure that when making a direct copy the paper in the cassette is the same size as the paper being loaded into the machine. Setting the paper cassette controls can be done through the touch screen menus.

Overview:

The Toshiba E-Studio 45 is one of the most affordable ways to get 45 page per minute copy performance into a small office in the form of a fully expandable, highly versatile document processing system.

Pros:

The Toshiba E-Studio 45 is one of the best bargains available when it comes to mid sized multifunctional machines. Cranking out product at 45 pages per minute, the device competes with almost anything on the market when it comes to raw performance. It also executes copies in as fast as 3.9 seconds for the first page. Its built in 366 MHz processor and 64 MBs of memory help explain the unit’s notable speed, and memory is further expandable up to 192 MBs.

A maximum monthly duty cycle of 150,000 copies per month means the Toshiba E-Studio 45 can certainly take a lot of abuse, and dual 550 sheet standard paper trays ensure that paper refills will be limited. Further paper expansion hardware, including an enormous side by side style 2,500 sheet paper drawer, can bring the device’s storage capacity up to an insane 3,700 sheets.

Copy functions include not only a 2 in 1 and 4 in 1 mode, but an exceptional 8 in 1 mode as well, meaning that up to 8 pages worth of input can be squeezed onto a single page of output. Most multifunctional devices are not capable of this much reduction.

The unit’s hard drive is strangely small at 4.3 GBs, which is probably another sign of this unit’s age. With a few gigs of memory, though, most users will find that there is plenty of personal data storage space on the unit itself, as most users do not rely solely on stand alone printing and scanning for their work. Additional RAM memory is also quite small at 32 MBs, and the unit may, as a result, suffer from some slowdown when dealing with complex print material such as mixed text and graphics, but the unit is so fast in the first place this shouldn’t be a problem for anyone.

The large touch screen control panel is essential for quick navigation of the product’s many menus and options, while all the standard dedicated buttons and a keypad are present as well. When sending a fax, the unit’s JBIG compression works in conjuncture with a Super G3 33.6 Kbps modem to send and receive data at a rate of about 2 seconds per page. Features such as fax polling, chain dialing, and up to 400 phone book entries are also found in the device’s facsimile arena.

Cons:

The most notable shortcoming found in the Toshiba E-Studio 45 is its fairly pathetic optical scan quality. At 600 x 600 dots per inch, decent color imagery is not really possible to capture with the device. Its age is also a factor. Toshiba does make a note to continue to offer support for their older devices, but as time passes the unit will be come less and less compatible with current software. That being said, this device is absolutely perfect for many businesses looking for a lot of performance on a low budget.
