HP Color LaserJet 2500L Review
The HP Color LaserJet 2500L is a laser printer suited for the budding business enthusiasts. This printer is suitable for small businesses, but the home office users would consider this venture a wise first-step. Hewlett & Packard has discontinued the direct sale of this valuable printer. The fantastic news is that many other retailers have this stock for sale for cheap. With standard print speeds and quality prints, this printer is a small business workhorse cog that delivers. The printer is smallish with 19-inches in width, 17.8-inches deep, 12.8-inches tall, and a modest weight of 47.4 pounds.
This printer is one step ahead, the HP Color LaserJet 1500L; with its Ethernet and 64 Mega Bytes of memory (expandable to 256 Mega Bytes). The memory is based on SDRAM-DIMM 100-pin technology. This printer utilizes the same 300 MHz processor engine but provides flexibility in print complexity and network-ability. With a rate of 16 pages per minute for black-based documents and 4 pages per minute for color-based documents, this printer can handle a few nodes on its network. While this printer is not ideally network-able at enterprise speeds, it can handle a small business with a few computers connected. Images and texts are at a 600 x 600 dots per inch of resolution. Monthly duty cycle is 30,000 pages. Various media size consistent with the use of the printer is B5 (6.93 x 9.83-inches), Executive (7.25 x 10.5-inches), Legal (8.5 x 14-inches), A5 (5.83 x 8.25-inches), A4 (8.25 x 11.7-inches), and Letter A Size (8.5 x 11-inches). Envelope sizes compatible are US No #10 (4.1 x 9.5-inches), International DL (4.33 x 8.66-inches), International C5 (6.38 x 9-inches), and Monarch (3.87 x 7.5-inches). Apart from a decent selection of sizes for a small business, various media types like Cards, Recycled Paper, Bond Paper, Envelopes, Labels, Vellum Paper, Transparencies, and Plain Paper are consistent with the printer. The total media capacity is acceptable at 375-sheets, but expandable with two extra trays. HP boasts that the printer can blend colors in pixels to create a 2400 dots per inch resolution with HP ImageREt 2400 technologies. This claim is not confirmed, but if true, that would be excellent. This printer has a firm position in businesses involved primarily in presentation and business correspondence. The black-based documents appear transparent, smooth, and clean. If businesses are involved in dealing with spreadsheets and the like, this printer is the obvious choice. It can work in busy office-segments with its high-memory and paper capacity. It is evident that the printer is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Mac OS 8.6 or later, and is certified for Windows Vista. Printer languages are PCL 6, PCL 5c, and PostScript 3. Ease of use is made possible with convenient accessibility to printer data, software tools, embedded web server, and printer alerts/status. Expandability in paper capacity consists of two additional/optional trays; tray 2 with 250-sheet capacity and tray 3 with 500-sheet capacity. There are two extra DIMM slots for memory expansion and an optional JetDirect print server that can be fitted in the EIO slot.
While the printer is Energy Star labeled, the printer utilizes a high amount of 400 watts during operation. During operation, it is quite loud at 62 Decibels. Its paper media capacity could be a little larger. Photos is not vivid as ink-jet printer can create. If a user needs a printer for images mostly, than an ink-jet printer is more suitable than this laser printer. The duplex feature is manual. A consumer review of the printer states that the printer intervenes by deciding when the toner and drum are done. If the machine decides that the drum or toner is done, regardless if it still has toner, it will disable on its own. The average laser printer has set the bar in print-rate that this printer cannot meet. |
