What's the difference between a drum and a toner cartridge? A toner cartridge is just that: a cartridge that contains toner. The drum does all the work.

When to Replace the Drum in a Brother intelliFAX 4100 Fax Machine

Drum unit level in Brother Intellifax 4100 can be manually checked by entering press <2><0><3>, LCD screen will display in percent how much of drum life is remaining.

You can also understand when Drum unit of Brother Intellifax 4100 printer is almost at its end when the LCD screen shows message, or printing out a supply status page.

After receiving that message you can still use Brother Intellifax 4100 printer but do it with caution because you will still have to change the drum unit.
NOTE: After receiving massage you will start having problems with printed pages like lighter than usual or pale images replace the drum unit.

CAUTION: If you have to change the drum unit after you had used the printer wait a while to cool down, because the temperature inside can be extremely high.

How to Replace the Drum in a Brother intelliFAX 4100 Fax Machine

To change the drum unit in Brother Intellifax 4100 printer stand in front of it and open the front cover door. Take out toner and drum assembly, take away the toner cartridge by pressing the lock on the right side of the toner cartridge.

Take out the new drum unit, replacing the old one and install the toner cartridge back in new drum, make an assembly.

Clean drum unit using the corona wire several times and then set the corona wire back in first position.

Install back the drum and toner assembly back in Brother Intellifax 4100 printer. Don’t close the front cover yet.

Press button, press <1>. On the LCD screen will be shown message. This will mean that you have reset correctly the drum unit count.

Close front cover door and precede printing.
