When do I Replace a Drum Unit in the Brother MFC-8300 Multifunction Center?

As any other consumable component, the installed drum unit must be replaced after a certain number of printed pages (approx. 20,000 pages at 5% coverage). You can check the percentage of printing resource that remains in the installed drum unit by selecting [0. MISCELLANEOUS] – [4. DRUM LIFE].
You should replace the installed drum unit when/if:

The message [CHANGE DRUM SOON] is displayed – You should replace the installed drum unit to avoid print quality problems.

Repetitive image defects occur at regular intervals – You should print at least 10 pages, and then check if the defects are still present. Please replace the installed drum unit if print quality does not improve.

How to Install a Drum Unit in the Brother MFC-8300 Multifunction Center

Initially, you must open the front cover of the multifunction center, and then pull the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly out of the main compartment. Next, you must remove the toner cartridge from the exhausted drum unit by pulling it towards you while pressing the release lever. After that, you must unpack the new drum unit, and then attach the toner cartridge to the new component. Now, you must insert the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly into the Brother MFC-8300 Multifunction Center, and then press [Clear] – [1] to reset the drum counter. Finally, you must close the front cover of the multifunction center.
