BROTHER MFC-8820D DRUM

Your Brother MFC-8820D Multifunction Printer is equipped with a built-in system for drum unit monitoring, which will appropriately notify you as soon as an abnormality in the status of the installed drum unit is detected. In order to notify, the monitoring system displays special warning messages on the control LCD of your printer, which are different for each installed component. When the abnormality is caused by an exhausted drum unit, you will see the following message ''Change Drum Soon'' appearing on the LCD. The purpose of this message is to notify you that the installed drum unit should be replaced, in order to be avoided a variety of print quality issues, such as background fogging, blurred images, blank copies, solid copies, white banding, or black banding. Therefore, you should replace the installed drum unit soon after the initial appearance of the ''Change Drum Soon'' warning message.

Important: Please avoid touching the components surrounding the installed drum unit, because most of the inner printer parts/components are getting extremely hot during operation. Please also note that the sensitive surface of the drum (on the top side of the drum unit), the printer electrodes, and the contact area of the toner cartridge must not be touched, in order to be avoided future print quality problems.

You must start the drum unit replacement procedure by opening the front cover of your Brother MFC-8820D Multifunction Printer. Then, you must remove the exhausted drum unit from the printer by grabbing its front side and carefully pulling it out of the printer compartment. After that, you must pull the toner cartridge towards you while pushing down the blue lock release lever, which is located on the right side of the exhausted drum unit, in order to detach the toner cartridge from the exhausted consumable component. Now, you must take the new drum unit out of the protective/transport packaging, and immediately after that, you must install the toner cartridge by pushing it down into the new drum unit until you hear a click. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must install the new drum unit into the machine, and then press and hold down the [Clear/Back] button until the following message ''Replace Drum 1.Yes 2.No'' appears on the control LCD. Finally, you must confirm the new drum unit installation, resp. the reset of the drum counter, by pressing [1], and then close the front cover of your Brother MFC-8820D Multifunction Printer.
