Pros:

With its 19 page per minute color print speed, the Brother MFC-9125CN certainly isn’t the fastest color printer available, but with all it does for the price it is a great value at this performance level. Black and white prints are also done at this speed, as well as copies of both kinds.

While many color printers and multifunctional units have been released with mediocre overall print quality, the Brother MFC-9125CN does not suffer in this way thanks to its 600 x 2400 dot per inch print resolution that makes full color imagery stand out in a way that 600 x 600 dot per inch printers cannot. The unit also relies on LED technology making overall operation slightly faster and more energy efficient.

While a high speed USB 2.0 port is included on the device’s hardware, its Ethernet port is really what makes it stand out as far as connectivity. With this network ready printer, an entire office can enjoy the benefits of color printing, scanning, copying, and faxing with a very short setup time.

Paper handling is made possible by a standard 250 sheet paper tray that is accompanied by a more than welcome single sheet bypass slot. Fax features are made possible by 64 MBs of standard memory that is upgradable to 576 MBs and a 33.6 Kbps Super G3 fax modem. Transmission speeds run at around 2 seconds per page and the unit is capable of sending and receiving color faxes. PC faxing is also operational in this unit so users do not even have to leave their desktop nor deal with a hard copy to send and receive data over the fax line.

Cons:

The Brother MFC-9125CN suffers from what all color laser printers suffer from which is high cost per page. Color laser printing has come down exponentially in cost over the past ten years, but it is still no where near as affordable as black and white printing. Brother products, while they do use high yield toner cartridges, are no different and users should expect to pay around 15 cents per page per color print. That being said, the 9125 is right on par with other printers in its category.

The recommended monthly print volume for the Brother MFC-9125CN is only 300 to 1,500 pages. Considering that the device is network ready, it’s more than likely that a lot of offices will be surpassing this volume quite often. The unit’s maximum duty cycle is 25,000 pages which, while much higher, is still quite low for a unit of this type.
