When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the Canon LaserCLASS 3170?

The toner cartridge installed in your Canon LaserCLASS 3170 is a compact unit, which contains the photosensitive drum and the toner. You must replace the installed toner cartridge with a new one, when any of the listed messages appears on the control panel display.

‘’INSTALL CARTRIDGE’’ – The built-in monitoring system of your Canon LaserCLASS 3170 cannot detect the toner cartridge. Therefore, you must make sure that the toner cartridge is installed into the machine. You must install a new toner cartridge, if the issue persists.

‘’REPLACE CARTRIDGE’’ – The current print job/task cannot be completed due to a lack of toner. You must install a new toner cartridge to be able to continue printing.

‘’CHECK PRINTER COVER’’ – You must make sure that the toner cartridge is firmly inserted into the machine, and the printer cover is closed. Please install a new toner cartridge, if the problem persists.

‘’RECEIVED IN MEMORY’’ – The printing process has been stopped due to an empty toner cartridge, full output-tray, or empty input paper-cassette. You should load paper into the cassette, and remove all documents from the output tray. A new toner cartridge must be installed, if the Canon LaserCLASS 3170 continues to store the received faxes into the internal memory.

How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the Canon LaserCLASS 3170

Initially, you must lift the feeder tray and the output tray. Then, you must lift the upper output tray. After that, you must open the top cover of your Canon LaserCLASS 3170, and remove the old toner cartridge by pulling it straight upwards. Now, you must take the new toner cartridge out of the protective bag, and shake it 8-10 times from side to side. In the next step, you must snap the tab, which is located on the left side of the new toner cartridge, and then pull it away from the new component to remove the sealing tape. Please avoid touching the protective shutter on the bottom of the new toner cartridge. Once the protective sealing tape is removed, you must insert the new toner cartridge into the machine, but please make sure that it is correctly oriented, and then close the top cover. Finally, you must lower the upper output tray, the document output tray, and the document feeder tray of your Canon LaserCLASS 3170.

Overview:

The Canon LC 3170 laser fax offers printing, copying, and much more. Output quality is outstanding and it delivers print speeds of up to 17 pages per minute.

Pros:

This unit is large, but well built. The standard model includes a 500-sheet standard tray and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. An additional 500 sheet tray can be added to increase paper capacity to 1,100 sheets.

The Canon LaserClass 3170 can be hooked up to two phone lines for sending and receiving at the same time. This allows busy offices to be more productive. The Canon LaserClass 3170 can store up to 192 pages in its memory, making it possible to retrieve missed faxes, even if the unit ran out of paper.

This unit produces up to 17 pages per minute when printing. Print quality is excellent, with support for 1200 dpi printing. Text documents show no signs of feathering. The results are better than with many machines in its class.

The Canon LaserClass 3170 is an outstanding choice for any office that needs a fax that also offers fast printing. It is affordable and the price of consumables is low.

Cons:

This unit does not include color printing. Another drawback to owning this machine is that the control panel does not indicate where a paper jam is.
