Replacing an Ink Ribbon in the Casio CE4700

The Casio CE4700 cash register uses a combination of an ink ribbon and a stamp to create detailed receipts. These are consumable products that will, from time to time, inevitably have to be replaced. Once the numbers printed from the machine begin to become faint, the ribbon needs to be replaced because it is running out of ink. It is advised to replace the paper roll as well every time you replace an ink ribbon.

To replace the ink ribbon, first you must remove the printer sub cover. The ink ribbon cassette will be seen underneath and is locked in position. It must be first pulled towards the keyboard and then lifted away from the machine and disposed of, preferably by recycling.

Open a new ink ribbon only right before it is to be installed. The new ribbon will fit into the machine the same way that the old one did. To achieve this, align the pegs on the ribbon with the slots in the printer itself. Press the ribbon cartridge into position until it snaps itself into place. The only ribbons you should be using are ERC-32C or their equivalents.

The ribbon has probably fallen slack to some degree and must be tightened by hand. To do so, turn the tightening knob on the ribbon three times or until the ribbon is pulled taught. DO NOT confuse ribbon ink with stamp ink as doing so can actually damage the printer.

Replenishing Stamp Ink on the Casio CE4700

The printer uses a stamp process along with its standard ink ribbon to print images onto receipts, presumably being the mark of the business. The stamp pad will need a couple fresh drop of ink to be added to it from time to time, but this should never be done to the ink ribbon which must be replaced entirely.

Tear the receipt paper off somewhere between the paper inlet and the roll itself. This will reveal the stamp pad and allow it to be pulled up and out of the machine. Using the proper type of ink, manually force a couple of drops into the holes on the back of the stamp pad. CASIO SUPER INK K is the only type of ink that should be used in this process as other types can cause a chemical reaction in the stamp pad.

Once replenished, replace the stamp pad into its holder and feed the paper through the printer the way you would with a fresh paper roll.

How to Load a Paper Roll in the Casio CE4700

Once a paper roll runs out, it must be replaced with a fresh roll. Receipt paper or journal paper can be used with the device, though both have their own separate loading procedure. To load regular receipt paper, first remove the old paper roll if there is one.

Place the new roll onto the spool so that the leading edge comes from the BOTTOM of the roll. Fold the end of the paper over itself and press RECIEPT FEED until you have about 20 cms of paper exposed. Use the folded edge to pass the paper through the outlet and, when finished, tear off the excess paper.
