6 Products for the Dell 1700n Laser Printer
Dell 1700n Review
The Dell 1700n monochrome laser printer is a small but fast desktop device that excels in expandability options for picky buyers. It is fully network ready due to a built in Ethernet card, and is also available in a non networked version; the Dell 1700. Both versions are extremely affordable considering their print speed and should be available now for less than a hundred dollars.
The image quality of the Dell 1700n is excellent, and can be adjusted to up to 1200 x 1200 dots per inch. Though this may cause a slightly lower maximum print speed than 600 x 600 dot per inch mode will, the results will usually be worth it due to the extra clean polish the high resolution can add. Print speed itself is also above average and tops out at 25 pages per minute maximum.
The networking model has an additional 16 MBs of memory to help cope with the additional demands placed on a shared printer, while the base model comes with 16 MBs to start and is expandable if printing needs grow. The unit’s monthly duty cycle of 15,000 sheets is about average for a printer of this size, and allows for plenty of print volume leniency. Memory expansion allows for a maximum of 160 MBs of total RAM to be used in the Dell 1700n, and up to 144 MBs total in the Dell 1700 model, allowing for optimal print speeds.
Dell is a company known for their service, and they make 24/7 toll free technical phone support available to all customers while also including a one year next business day advanced exchange service. The, three, and four year extended service options are available for an additional fee. With a height under ten inches tall, the unit’s dimensions of 15.5 in. x 13.9 in. x 9.8 in. (W x D x H) make it as good a personal printer as it is a network device, while its weight of 27 pounds makes setup especially easy.
There are not too many bad things to be said about the Dell 1700n, other than it is slightly dated at this point and newer models from Dell operate at faster print speeds. It also relies entirely on a single sheet multifunctional slot for special media types. For anyone wishing to print more than one envelope, transparency, or business card at one, they had better look elsewhere because hand feeding special media one item at a time can be very time consuming. The manual feed slot is also only capable of accepting paper up to 43 lbs in thickness. |
