Dell 2130cn Review
The Dell 2130cn is a great printer for those who require a high volume laser printer that is capable of both networking and printing in full color, for the purposes of adding color printing capabilities to an entire office. This unit in particular is very affordable, and its color print speeds do not suffer terribly due to its reasonable price tag, though they are fairly conservative.
Printing if full color at a speed of up to 16 pages per minute, the Dell 2130cn is not the fastest device in its class but is still very reasonable as far as raw power. Printing color even at this slightly average speed requires an incredible amount of processing power, which is why Dell provided the 2130cn with 400 MHz of it.
The on board memory included with the unit is also above average at 256 MBs, and its memory expansion options are absolutely incredible. An additional 512 MB or 1024 MBs module can increase the unit’s total memory all the way up to a stunning 1280 MBs. This amount of memory would almost never be required for standard laser printing but, when dealing with color, full page imagery is often common, meaning this enormous amount of energy is critical for keeping print speeds at an acceptable level.
A simple 250 sheet covered drawer and a single sheet bypass slot make up the paper handling abilities of the Dell 2130cn, which is more than enough for many buyers. If more paper storage is required, an additional drawer with 250 sheets of storage space can be added to increase the unit’s total paper capacity to 500 (501) sheets. Additionally, a 2 line, 16 character LCD display with a simple, five cursor keypad helps users to easily navigate menus and fine tune their printing options.
The Dell 2130cn is a printer that entirely holds its own for a variety of applications and its only major drawback is that it is becoming dated when compared to the units being released today. With amazing color print speeds pushing 30 pages per minute now available, the Dell 2130cn is falling behind the times. Color laser technology is one that is rapidly advancing, and this device is simply one that got caught in the middle of progress. The unit’s maximum duty cycle of 40,000 pages per month is above and beyond what one might expect from a unit in this category. Unfortunately, this number from Dell can be very misleading due to the fact that the company recommends printing only 750 to 3000 pages per month for optimal lifespan of the product. |
