Overview:

Complete with a full set of multifunctional color laser printing features as well as a slew of hardware expansion options, the Toshiba E Studio 2830C is capable of tackling a very wide range of color print, copy, scan, and fax needs while keeping costs per page at reasonable levels.

Pros:

The Toshiba E Studio 2830C is only capable of executing a color print speed of 28 pages per minute which is neither impressive nor far below the current standard, placing it in the average category for its price range. Its black and white print speed gets a noticeable boost up to 35 pages per minute, but this is still nothing to write home about considering the high cost of the hardware.

A full GB of RAM is included as a standard feature of the Toshiba E Studio 2830C, along with 512 MBs of page memory, but it is the device’s 80 GB hard drive that will attract users looking for an e-filing system. With e-filing, data does not have to be stored on a PC or even in a hard copy format, but instead can be kept safely within the printer itself for quick access at any time.

As a fax machine, the Toshiba E Studio 2830C contains all the features one would expect in a fully loaded machine. These include the device’s Super G3 33.6 Kbps fax modem along with some digital functions such as broadcasting and speed dialing. Input material can actually be scanned into the machine at a rate of about 55 scans per minute and then faxed out at a rate of about 3 seconds per page. This allows the device to free up its automatic document feeder before fax transmission is even complete.

One of the hardware options that can be attached to the Toshiba E Studio 2830C is a reversing automatic document feeder that can not only hold up to 100 sheets of input material but also allows the machine to scan both sides of input material. This makes double sided faxing, scanning, and copying possible with no user interaction.

Also available additionally is a large capacity 2500 sheet feeder that boosts the Toshiba E Studio 2830C’s overall paper storage capacity from 1200 sheets up to 3700 sheets. Standard paper storage consists of two 550 sheet trays along with a 100 sheet multipurpose tray that allows users to print to paper types that aren’t accepted in the larger trays.

Cons:

The Toshiba E Studio 2830C’s color print resolution is truly a major letdown. While black and white prints can be smoothed out to 2400 x 600 dots per inch, color prints are limited to a mere 600 x 600 dots per inch. This would be disappointing if the device was a monochrome copy machine, but as a color device this bare minimal resolution is almost unacceptable. Imagery will be noticeably more pixelated when produced by this machine than when printed from a 1200 x 1200 dot per inch unit which, by the way, can be found in the same price range.
