Toshiba E Studio 3500C Review

Overview:

As a color multifunctional center, the Toshiba E Studio 3500C excels in the areas of expandability and affordability. It is in its lackluster overall performance specifications that the device leaves something to be desired, as the unit is a little bit pricey for a 35 page per minute model. That being said, the unit’s color document handling abilities are extensive and just because the device is no longer at the top of its class doesn’t mean that it does not remain impressive in many ways.

Pros:

As the middle unit in a three model set, the Toshiba E Studio 3500C is significantly faster than the Toshiba E Studio 2500C but has a slower black and white print speed that the Toshiba E Studio 3510C model variation. It is capable of craning out 35 pages per minute in color as well as black and white, which makes it much, much faster than its desktop counterparts, but not quite as speedy as a newer, full sized color copy machine.

The Toshiba E Studio 3500C is also a large format printing, meaning that A3, Ledger, and Tabloid style paper are all compatible with the printer. The extra large document glass and automatic document feeder makes large format copying and scanning possible as well.

Other functions that the Toshiba E Studio 3500C is capable of executing are sending and receiving faxing and e-filing by way of the device’s built in 80 GB hard drive. With a built in hard disk, users can store, access, and manage their own private folders filled with page data. This data can be kept secure behind up to 1,000 department codes and 10,000 user codes. It can be accessed and printing, faxed, or e mailed directly from the machine by using the device’s touch screen, meaning that stand alone printing is a reality with this versatile machine, as well as stand alone copying, scanning, and faxing.

Cons:

The Toshiba E Studio 3500C is inarguably a powerful device, but there are always problems inherent in having a model that is a few years behind the curve. This device is not equipped with some features that are not pretty much standard fare for models in the category such as a high resolution touch screen or additional memory card slots for photo printing.

The device’s 2400 x 600 dot per inch resolution is, of course, a welcome improvement over the 600 x 600 dot per inch quality seen on lower end units, but is still not as good as the true 1200 x 1200 dot per inch quality that almost all other brands equip their color laser copy machines with these days.

The unit takes a full 99 seconds to power on, meaning that practically it will have to be left on all day, which wouldn’t be much of a problem if it wasn’t such a power hog. A few other brands offer power saving solutions such as energy save modes or much more rapid warm up times and energy conscious buyers should probably take this into consideration.
