Overview:

The Kyocera FS-C1020MFP is a device that presents flexibility, print quality, and robustness in an office environment.  Today's marketplace requires critical functions that the Kyocera FS-C1020MFP can deliver.  The printer is a network-capable device that will print, fax, scan and utilize duplex printing from atop any credenza.  Its panel is a tremendous help and value to managers worldwide.

Pros:

The Kyocera FS-C1020MFP is a no nonsense desktop multifunctional printer that can print 21 pages per minute of Letter-sized documents, 17 pages per minute of Legal-sized documents, and 20 pages of A4 documents per minute.  When users turn on the printer for the day, it takes less than 50 seconds to warm-up.  The first copy of the day will take 30 seconds, and the first print of the day will take 14 seconds.  There is a variation of time difference because it needs to 'whet its whistle' before resuming its normal printing process for the day.  Print resolution is 600 x 600 dots per inch with 4-bit color depth.

The standard memory is 256 Mega Bytes of RAM and its maximum capacity is 512 Mega Bytes of RAM.  It is always good  to include mod-ability in printers if need be.  Its dimensions are 16.5 inches in width, 19.4 inches in depth, 18.7 inches in height, and 66.2 pounds.  The recommended duty cycle per month is 15,000 pages.  It obviously displays its durability and workability with such a large number of print-ability.

The standard 250 sheet paper permits users to load a ream of paper.  One 500 sheet paper drawer is optional.  Altogether, the printer's maximum capacity is 750 sheets total.  Owners can utilize Legal, Letter, A4, Custom & Executive via the MPT and standard drawer.  Letter and A4s can be used via PF-110.  Envelopes, Labels, Transparencies, Recycled Paper, and Bond paper can be used in print mode only.  The output capacity of 150 sheets is admirable.  One can print up to 150 sheets until the tray needs to be emptied.

The copier and scanner can create up to 20 images per minute.  Not very much different from the printer rates.  Acceptable original images are Simplex, A4, Legal, and Letter.  The Duplex can print on both sides of A4s, Legals, and Letter-sized documents.  Hands-free two sided documents are great for individuals involved in magazine and book creation.  The copier can utilize text, manual, auto, text/photo, and photo image modes while setting a continuous copy of up to 99 pages.  Copy features consist of N-Up Copy, Electronic Sort, and ID Card Copy.

The Kyocera FS-C1020MFP is consistent with Windows Server 2003-2008, Windows Vista, Windows XP versions, and Windows 200 versions; Max OS 10.x versions are the only stated compatible versions.  Printer network interfaces consists of Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and 10/100BaseTX ports.  Hi-Speed USB 2.0 is good for one connection to a computer, whereas, the Ethernet ports allow for expandability and networking art.  Ethernet connectivity can be adjusted to fit one's networking needs.  The network protocols supported is the TCP/ICP.  Drivers utilized in the printer are PS3 and PCL.  Fonts utilized in the printer are the 80 PCL6 and the 80 PS3. 

The scanner utilizes a monochrome and color scanner flatbed.  Its resolutions can be modified to a maximum of 600 dots per inch and reduced to 400, 300, and 200 dots per inch.  File formats compatible are TIFF and PDF in Black; JPEG and PDF in color.  The scanner network interface consists of TCP/IP and 10/100 BaseTX.  The TCP/IP permits the scanner to work on the Internet and communicate with other connected computers.  There is not much limitation on the scanner function.  Scanner functions are TWAIN Scan, SCAN to FTP, Scan to email, and Scan to PC.  The driver for the scanner is TWAIN.  TWAIN permits the user to scan an image to an application without closing an application.  TWAIN reduces complexity and leg-work of having to convert the file format to work with applications, like Photoshop.

The fax compresses data in MMR/MR/MH.  Three transmission types utilized are Photo, Fine, and Selection Standard.  It has a fax memory of 2 Mega Bytes, which, is more than most fax memory located in other printers.  It takes less than 4 seconds to send a page to recipients and travels at 33.6 kilo bits per second.  The fax facilitates a memory capacity of up to 100 sheets.  With the fax machine, one can utilize up to 20 numbers for one-touch dials, broadcast, 50 numbers for quick dial, get fax reports, dual access, FAX/TEL switching and 1-hour back-up battery power.

Cons:

The PC network fax is send-only in Windows PC fax.  Would like to see better resolution in the prints, faxes, scans, and copies.  Having a resolution of 1200 x 1200 would make this printer a nearly-flawless design.  The printer does not incorporate wireless capability, unless, one designs a network in such a way.  The printer cannot accept posters and larger documents.  The printer speed is relatively slower than most printers.  The speed is not necessarily a con unless the printer is used in a workspace that requires fast prints.
